Russian Uni Tour - Spring 2009

Well, it's finished. Just two words can describe this tour: fast and effective. For four days we (Ilya Shpan'kov and Alexei Khlebnikov) lived in trains and tried to use the internet by laptop+mobile - but more importantly, we had a lot of interesting meetings with university officials, students, web-designers and more. Well, it was four fantastic days - from sea (Caspian Sea) to sea (Black Sea), across the two biggest and most well-known Russian Rivers - Volga and Don. All the cities we visited - Astrakhan, Volgograd, Rostov on Don and Krasnodar - are located in the south of Russia, and it's the first time Opera was there.

Below - more detailed about every city.

Trisakti - Jakarta

This is the first seminar which is held in Jakarta. Abit difficult to find the venue. Even we have to againt the traffic rules since we didnt want to get stuck with the crazy traffic jam there (yeah, it's Monday! Monday morning hehe,,).
So.... we arrived there 1 hour before the seminar was started. Most of the seminars in this tour were started at 9am. I'm glad that Bruce and Zibin are OK with this
Also, mostly the Dean of the faculty in this University seminar opened the seminar by giving speech. Some students were coordinated with me to make the seminars go smooth before and after.

More than 230 people were there, mix between students and the lecturers from Informatics. More people love to use Opera browser

ITT - Bandung

ITT is a university which is focusing to support the development of technology dan telecommunication industry. I'm glad that Opera team can visit this uni. Almost 250 students were there to join and follow the seminar.

Afterwards, we went to a nice place in Dago for the meet up (picture will be upload soon). It was very nice to meet the fans of Opera. We were sharing experiences while enjoying the very nice view with a nice weather.

IPB - Bogor

Finally, we arrived in Indonesia. We have the first Opera & The Web Seminar in IPB (Institut Pertanian Bogor). We were welcomed by the heavy rain in this rainy city. We met with the lecturers in the night before and have dinner together with an Opera fan as well.

In the morning, the lecturer sent his driver to pick us up. Thanks a lot . When we arrived, there were around 15 students already waiting there; they were pointed by the lecturer to help this seminar run successfully. Some of them were to be the MC, the coordinator of the snacks, merchandise, photographers, etc.

The Auditorium was full of people as you can see in the picture. More than 200 Computer Science students were there, and there was an equal number of males and females.

I was amazed with the presentation of both Zibin and Bruce as well, who each talked about Mobile Web Browsing and Open Standards + SEO. I gained a lot of information as well from it.

Bruce and Zibin also had time to try Sundanese food for lunch, together with the very kind lecturers. :chef:
