Space Travel Supply Co.

I live in the Greenwood neighborhood in north Seattle. It's an interesting place, home to working-class and affluent alike. It dates back to a time when American cities were full of ethnic enclaves, and Greenwood might very well be called Greek-wood for all the Mediterranean eateries. There are no less than a dozen such places within ten minutes of our house. If you don't want to go that far, you can walk across the street to a Greek deli.
That's not the only foreign presence, though. This is also home to a space travel supplier. It's largely aimed at the casual space traveler, so you'll find no $20 million Space Shuttle tickets here. It's appropriately named the Greenwood Space Travel Supply, Co. The store front carries all manner of supplies for interplanetary travellers intrepid and timorous alike.

Visiting said supplier, however, gives the impression that there's something more to it all. Go to their site and click on the telescope graphic at left. Then you'll see what it's really all about: it's a not-for-profit writing center. It's one of six in the US, the first of which is a pirate supply store in San Francisco, California.
The whole thing got started by Dave Eggers, author of the international best seller A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. Long story short, he wanted to do something good, and it's working.
Seattle kids can drop in at no cost and get one-on-one help with their writing. If you're not a kid, they have workshops for adults, too. And if that doesn't apply, you can stock up on all manner of space travel supplies.

My best friend raved about it, and he's kinda hard to impress. (Aren't ya, Sam?
I still haven't gotten around to reading it but 'tis verily on my (oh, so very) long "to read" list. I'm going into one of my sporadic reading phases, so it'll probably be sooner than later.
