Studying the design of everyday things

Great video/interview on Palm Pre

, ,

I'll link this up because I'm excited about the Palm Pre's focus on user experience and data conservation. Plus, I think the interviewed Roger McNamee is pretty reasonable when surveying the mobile landscape...

It not only knows where you are, but where you're supposed to be, and when

And apparently it can suggest appropriate actions, like email your assistant, or the participants in the meeting that you're late for. Sounds like a nice user-centered design...

Yeah- that's the stuff I can't wait to learn more about.

I'll believe it when I see it. I've been so disenchanted with Android's promise of delivery from phone monotony that all these new "gadgets" are going to have to step up to the plate.

Where is my good/simple/effective eReader app? I have all these old excellent books in PDB format that I can't read. I've yet to see one Reader app that could compete with Palm 5 OS, eReader. In terms of functionality, it was divine.

The point of that example is, what good is all that "magic" if the most basic functionality is weak? Android's calendar app looks like it was designed by people who keep little black calendar books and don't actually use calendars in devices.

Oh, Palm OS, how I miss you.
