Update: I totally had the date wrong! We are meeting on the 19th, not the 15th. Sorry!

A few Opera developers, including "
Mitchman",
Anne van Kesteren (very active with standards),
David Storey (Chief Web Opener at Opera), and the famous "
Olli" will be visiting the Seattle area next week. I thought it would be nice if we can start a Seattle Opera User Group and have them attend the first meet up.
Thanks to Anne Lee, a Seattle-local, this became possible. The first meeting will take place next Friday night (August 18, 2006) between 6PM and 8PM at the
Seattle Center (near the Seattle
Space Needle) by the food court area. Be on the lookout for Opera t-shirts or other Opera posters. (
Directions here)
Bring your computer if you’d like; there will be free Wi-Fi internet service at the food court.
We’re still looking for a local group leader to organize future group meetings in Seattle. If you’re interested either contact Anne or myself (
daniel@operawatch.com).

An Opera User Group is being set up in the Minnesota area by Eddie Lopez, from the
Usability blog.
This is an excellent way to meet other people who share a similar passion, the Opera browser. Learn from others how to use the Opera browser to its fullest, help others too. Discuss ways to promote the Opera browser in your school, workplace, and among your friends and family.
If you're in the Minnesota area and would like to join the group, please post a comment to group's
blog post.

The first ever meeting of the first ever Opera User Group is now scheduled for August 7th from 6:30 - 8:30pm. If you live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area (that's in the United States and includes DC, Baltimore, Annapolis, Northern Virginia, and all points in-between), come on out and meet some Opera users, including the dignified
Daniel Goldman (the man behind Opera Watch) and the mythical
Tim Altman (an Opera Software employee). We're meeting at the Panera Bread restaurant in Silver Spring, MD. See
Tim and/or
Daniel's blog posts for additional details.
Opera User Groups are groups of Opera users created by Opera users in geographically similar locations. Each user group is independently run by users. We, Opera users, have a lot to offer each other and can work together as groups on topics that interest us, such as promoting Opera, getting local sites to support Opera, and teaching each other our favorite features. If you're interested in starting an Opera User Group in your area, materials will be posted over the next couple of months to our
Opera Community page.
