Announcements and ideas for Opera User Groups

Opera User Group coming to Washington, DC area

The first ever meeting of the first ever Opera User Group is now scheduled for August 7th from 6:30 - 8:30pm. If you live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area (that's in the United States and includes DC, Baltimore, Annapolis, Northern Virginia, and all points in-between), come on out and meet some Opera users, including the dignified Daniel Goldman (the man behind Opera Watch) and the mythical Tim Altman (an Opera Software employee). We're meeting at the Panera Bread restaurant in Silver Spring, MD. See Tim and/or Daniel's blog posts for additional details.

Opera User Groups are groups of Opera users created by Opera users in geographically similar locations. Each user group is independently run by users. We, Opera users, have a lot to offer each other and can work together as groups on topics that interest us, such as promoting Opera, getting local sites to support Opera, and teaching each other our favorite features. If you're interested in starting an Opera User Group in your area, materials will be posted over the next couple of months to our Opera Community page.

Interesting, I might stop by after work. Though I'd be there early..anyone know if I can get there from walking from Metrorail+Metrobus? A guide to what bus to take would be nice..though I'll probably wind up leaving early cause the bus that takes me to the town I live in stops around 8PM.

Driving is a laugh (you guys know what I mean if you live there. $3+ for GAS!)

WuZiMu, the train station is only a block away.

The Silver Spring Metro stop (red line) is about three blocks away.

Oh that is out of my distance of travel but if a person is going to go from MO or passing through. PM me please and maybe we can split some of the cost.

Daniel Goldmandanigoldman Wednesday, July 26, 2006 11:10:12 PM

rschultz2002, there's definitely no need to come all the way from MO. Why don't you post it to the Opera User Group Forums? Perhaps you could set one up in your area. We will help you as much as we could to get you started.

danigoldman, I would love to do that but all the people around here think they know everything in the World as in IE is the best. So it would very hard to talk some of these people into trying Opera. Good idea but I do not see it in this town I live in at this time.

Now I read your site everyday and did not know you live in the US. LOL, and this is real bad, I did not even know Junyor lived in the US.

I just wanted to go to meet the people that post all the time and just talk and have fun.

Yes I have bad Grammar too. Just had to say that I do not want to edit this post anymore.

@rogerleos: We hope to see you there.

rshultz2002, What we need is a Midwest Users Group. Being from Kansas, Its nothing to drive 150-200 miles.

Say Kansas City, Wichita or Tulsa and I'm there!

Or if you're in Eastern Mo, a good meeting point would be Branson where we could include our friends from Arkansas and Oklahoma! Just tossing out some ideas!

I just joined a week ago.. and already a user group coming to my own backyard! I'll probably have to leave early, though. Mondays in DC are Screen on the Green nights on the National Mall. Gotta get there before sunset. I just can't miss free movies outside. Too tempting.

@aijuswanawrite: We look forward to seeing you!
