E52からGalaxy Sに乗り換えて...

先日から実はSymbianを捨て、Androidに乗り換えました

Galaxy Sの4インチSuper AmoLEDは実に見やすく美しいですね。いろいろとAO流にコチョコチョと試していますが、Andoroidの世界はふと昔のPalmOSを思い出させてくれます。CPUパワーも申し分なく、数多くの無料ソフトが瞬時にインストールできて、これはもう出先ではネットブックを開かなくても用を足してくれそうな感じと...

マニアチックな連中にはタマラないスマフォでしょう。田舎町では本体価格は税込560ユーロから599ユーロとふざけていますが、T-Mobile系のプロバイダが特別キャンペーンをしており、月々45ユーロの新規回線契約では99ユーロでした。通常は同じ契約でも本体価格は470ユーロですから、かなり特別とその場で決断となってしまいました。

今週末にAndroid2.2公式版も登場するそうですから、タイミングもベストかと...

じっくり暇つぶしに楽しんでみようかと...

注）Android2.2は結局10月末にリリースとなるそうで〜す。

E52の弱点！

Apple, Nokia, Competition, Business philosophy ...

Nokia E52だけか、Nokiaの問題かは不明ですが、E52の内部メモリーで使える部分は60MBしかありません。

まあ、ビジネススマフォとしてだけそのメモリーがキチンと使えればそれほどの問題にはなりません。ところが多くのユーザらは、メモリー不足に悩まされているようです。AOもE52を使い出して半年ちょっとですが、その間に3−4度firmwareのアップデーやOviMaps、いくつかのソフト類を入れました。すると最近残る内部メモリーが何と4メガ位しかない状態となってしまいました。Mac-XPに繋いで内部メモリー量を調べても56メガどころか、30数メガしかつかっていません。

では一発、ソフトリセットして綺麗さっぱり状態でもう一度ゴミなしで試してみようと再構築しました。そしてバックアップからリストアすると、なんとFontRouterがExpired Certificateでインストールできない状態になったりと、少々ヤキモキさせられましたが、完璧に使えるように仕上げ直してみました。

ほぼソフトリセット前の状況に仕上げても、今度は28メガほどのフリーメモリーとなっています。ある程度スマフォの癖を知るユーザであれば、大した問題ではないでしょうが、一般のド素人が多い訳ですから、この辺の次元の低いトラブルはいただけませんよ、Nokia！

道理でAppleなどとの戦いに負けてしまうと...

ここまで多くのSimbianを手掛けたNokiaですが、OSの挙動、あまりにも中途半端なサポート対応などガッカリするほどの水準と見受けま〜す。iPhoneOSやAndroidに市場を奪われたまま、もしかするとスマフォ撤退に追いやられるのではと...

別にNokiaが潰れても痛くも痒くもないですが、もっとシッカリしたサポート無しには生き残れないと宣言しま〜す。

追　FontRouterManが使えないので、代わりに無償となったPsiloc Japanese Readerにしました。フォントサイズは105%として試していま〜す。日本語文字の美しさにはチト劣るのですが、これを使うと田舎町言語もキチンと表示できるのはメリットです。+J for S60などでも実は表示できません。よってNikia Dictoonary Appで日本語、英語、田舎語を好みで使えるようになりました。

日本語サイトのネット巡回にはもちろんOpera Miniを使えばどうにか違和感なく楽しめます。

E52　Microsoft Releases Communicator Mobile For Nokiaリリース！

今日、Microsoft Releases Communicator Mobile For NokiaがE52でDLできるようになってました。どんなソフトかと言うと、

Microsoft and Nokia Wednesday launched Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia devices, the first application resulting from their alliance around mobile productivity.
The unified communications client connects directly with a company's communications systems for mobile collaboration. The launch is viewed as a strategic move to regain momentum against smartphone leaders Research in Motion, maker of BlackBerry devices, Apple Inc.’s iPhone, and handsets built on Google's Android platform.

Users of the Symbian-based Nokia E72 and E52 smartphones can download the English version from Nokia's Ovi Store.

"Our alliance with Nokia aims to bring the Office productivity experience to the millions of people using Nokia smartphones around the world," said Kirt Debique, general manager at Microsoft. "With the arrival of Communicator Mobile for Nokia today, we have a great start to fulfilling our joint vision."

Communicator Mobile joins the Windows Phone 7 series, Microsoft’s next smartphone OS, which is based on the unreleased Windows 7 CE core and will be released in the fourth quarter.

With Communicator Mobile, users will be able to view colleagues' availability, and click to communicate with them either with IM, email, text or phone call. The names and status of colleagues are embedded directly into the devices' contacts application, enabling users to update their own presence, start and join instant messaging sessions, and begin calls directly from the contact card.

"This application really provides a much more efficient way to work with others as you can see if someone is busy or available, and the best way to start a conversation with them," said Ukko Lappalainen, vice president at Nokia. "It also meets all of the requirements for enterprise: cost effective to implement, secure, familiar and reliable." The launch is the first product from the alliance, which was announced last August. Since then, the two companies have been collaborating on design and development of communications solutions.

Communicator Mobile targets enterprises, and one of the benefits that will allow it to compete with the Blackberry Messenger is its ability to log IM conversations, said Chris Hazelton, research director, Mobile and Wireless, at The 451 Group, in Boston. “Essentially, this is another step where IM is replacing SMS,” he said, which is especially appealing for companies in regulated industries that need to track communication.

何か分かるようでスッキリしませんね。Skypeをコピーしたようようにも見えます。Nokiaのサイトを覗いても、現時点では例によってそれらしい詳しい設定方法などは全くありません。

Nokiaもその程度で相棒がマイクロソフトでは大したものではないでしょう。

上記の解説にもあるように対象は企業レベルで会社のサーバを介してインスタントメッセージをスマフォ間で効率良くやれるようにしようとしています。でもより多くのユーザを狙うなら、どうしてHotmailなどのサーバ経由で誰にでも使えるような選択がないのでしょうか。

そのうちそうなるのかもと...

Required Server Components

Office Communications Server 2007 R2. Communicator Mobile for Java requires a deployment of Office Communications Server 2007 R2.
Communicator Web Access server. The Communicator Web Access server is a critical server deployment requirement for Communicator Mobile for Java. Communicator Mobile for Java uses the Communicator Web Access server to connect client devices to the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 environment, and the Communicator Web Access server acts as a gateway to the various Office Communications Server functions.
Voice mail configuration. The Communicator Mobile for Java user account must be configured with an Exchange mailbox, and it must be enabled for Enterprise Voice.
Reverse proxy deployment. A reverse proxy is typically used in front of Web servers, and it presents a single interface to clients. It is also used to balance the load on a Web server farm. Communicator Mobile for Java connects to Communicator Web Access server through the reverse proxy.
Exchange Client Access server. The Client Access server role supports the Microsoft Outlook Web Access and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync client applications and the Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) and Internet Message Access Protocol version 4rev1 (IMAP4) protocols. The Client Access server role accepts connections to your Exchange 2007 server from a variety of different clients, including mobile devices. The Client Access server role is required in every Exchange Server 2007 organization.
Exchange Unified Messaging deployment. Microsoft Exchange Server Unified Messaging (UM) integrates with Office Communications Server 2007 R2 to offer voice mail functionality.

MS流ですから、きっと繋がってもメモリー不足でマトモに動かないのが結末の雰囲気かと...

最近使えるようになったNokia MessagingもE52のEmailアプリ(Ver. 2.1.0)で一発設定できます。Gmail、YahooMail、OviMailなどなどNokiaのサーバを通してBlackberryのようにほぼリアルタイムでメールが受け取れます。試用期間が過ぎると有料になるようです。さらに日本語で送られたメールもNokiaのサーバを通ることで文字化けがほとんどなくなります。好みのユーザにはお薦めですね。AO流にはGoogleのGmailソフトのバックアップ用としていますが、Nokia Messagingを敢えて使わずE52から直接GmailとHotmailへのアクセスで十分と考えています。Google-Gmailソフトも文字化けはほぼゼロですから、必要十分で〜す。メールに常に追いかけられては自分のペースが乱されると...　ちょっとコンサーバティブかも知れませんが、あくまで主役は自分と..

追. Mail for ExchangeでGoogle CalとE52のカレンダーも一発シンクできています。これが使える意義は大きいですね。

E52　firmware 034.001にアップ！

先日E52のファームウェアが034.001にアップしました。Over the airで本体にDLすると622kbです。そのままアップデートできました。どこかどう改善されたかは現時点では見えませんがきっとどこかが進化したのだろうと...
