If Jesus was Here Today

, , , , ,

In this world today we have become so accustomed to the bizarre that we are willing to accept almost any act without batting an eye. It was called future shock after the book by Alvin Toffler (even though it was just the opposite) when I was growing up. We accuse New Yorkers of being cold hearted folks who step over bodies on their way to work without ever noticing.

I'm starting to learn that the term we used years ago that the world was getting smaller no longer applies. It has already shrunk. People are over this planet are virtually the same.

In talking to a group of Native Americans in Arizona I was fastenated in enjoying their sense of humor as they recalled being extras in a cowboy and Indian movie. They chuckled about the one "white man" bullet being shot and 4 "Indians" falling off their horses.

I listened intently as an American man who had married a Nigerian woman told me his story about having to adhere to the custom and send $50,000.00 to her family for the dowry. She did however inform him that they had made him a king in Nigeria. His complaint, after a reality check, was that what they had made him was a fool.

It seems that no one seems to see the obvious until after the fact. This started me wondering what would it have been like if Jesus lived today. With that in mind I prepared a brief illuustration of my conception of just one incident that Jesus might have found himself in. As you can see the fact of his feat (no pun intended) would go without notice in this time of acquiescence.

Your last paragraph rings true. In todays society, hindsight is always 20/20.

I am not one just to accept things as the normal. If something does not seem right, i'll question it.

Excellent entry

Hello, I never read that book, but I am very familiar with the New York issue from way back and the sad part it's true, it became more prevelant in late 60's when 75 people watched from their apartments; a girl get murdered, she after being stabbed was still alive as she was outside her complex (People saw), she ran in to her complex screaming; the man caught up with her and began stabbing her again. People opened their doors, then shut them AND NO ONE CALLED THE POLICE, NOT FROM OUTSIDE TO IN. She made it two flights of stairs until she died of being stabbed 39 times. All the outside (Witnesses) and the indoor (Witnesses) and not "ONE" 911 CALL. I grew up in Connecticut and frequented New York many times and they are "Mostly" rude. As for "hind sight" it is 20/20, and it's a shame when the Lord comes in the clouds, (For his righteousness and purity sake, His "Feet" shall never touch this filthy evil earth): those who are not with him will have no more sight "Of any kind". It's time to get off the fence, "For there will be no half hearted souls in heaven". I say if Jesus was here today!?! "He would do exactly what He did the first time". Peace and God Bless, Lyn

Yes I remember it well. The 1970s in New York were known for it's stabbings just like Baltimore has become the place to get shot these days.

The murder of Kitty Genovese is the one to which you are referring. Even thought it was is 1985 it still was the tail end of the 1970s stabbing assults on many New Yorkers as well as many tourists visiting New York.

I always had my own businesses during the 60's up until I recently retired. Therefore I had the flexibility to do many other things including teaching at street academies in New York's Harlem. I had one student who was stabbed to death while returning home from tour of duty (serving with the US Army). He went to the aid of a woman in an attempted rape.
He had grown up to carry out my very teachings of protecting our women, children and elderly.

I can truly say that while teaching, coaching many different baseball and basketball in New York and New Jersey, I gained many sons. I know that any one of them including all of them would have done the same thing. Tyrone, the young man that gave his life protecting that woman would not want us to feel that his life was in vain. He would had done it over and over again.

Many times I stuck my nose in-between assailant and victim. Now that I am older I think about it and wonder if I still have the physical strength to continue to prevail. It really doesn't matter since that will never change how I react to any crime concerning our women, children or elderly. I will always step in. These crimes are worth getting involved in and if need be, risking personal injury to one's own person. Just to step up and let these perpetrators know there are those who are not weak that will challenge them is enough. If I or my former students and young (now grown) sons don't do it who will.

WOW...that's a heavy burden. I just hope it is even partially true. I do not like people but one on one I never met a person that I didn't like. I don't like what people do.

Just to think that I have inspired even one person brings me such joy that you can't imagine. I feel that the happiness is more for me to gain than what ever I have given. Even when I give money to someone needy I feel guilty because my joy to be able to help them is more in value than the gift.

y has never been mine I just let it pass through my hands to the hands that need it next.

Yes...Just one.

lol then the next lol or at least think of only the next soul that might be influenced by any good.

I'm working on a children's section for the forum. It will be like sermons, singing and cartoon characters...Maybe you'll take a look later or tomorrow.
