of a middle aged life

aftermath

This is Risa's sign of victory: she's able to eat a big breakfast this morning, sausage and scrambled egg, with minimal to no pain. We passed the worst of Risa's viral throat infection on Friday. While I was being wined and dined that evening my veteran parent aunt had the pleasure of trying to comfort Risa through another restless night. We caught up with them Saturday for lunch and were relieved to see the biggest tears came as a result of being told she couldn't attend a birthday party that afternoon. When we brought her back home she slept for 3 solid hours, and also had a good sleep at her usual bedtime. Thank goodness it's over.

On a side note, as my life has been, I had the most warm and generous evening at the home of one of my supervisors. Being the department manager in a small site I often felt like I was on the fringe (the "outhouse"), administering the decisions coming down from "the Big House". For the most part that was ok as I don't really like being the center of attention. But having a fabulous and relaxed dinner (party of 13), and being given a very generous thank you gift was totally unexpected, and truly remarkable.
