This is a small piece that I had written at the start of 2007
At the end of the sporting season of ’06 as is the case many athletes bid adieu to their sports. But at the end of ’06 two of my idols and two great sporting personalities decided to hang up their boots. These two gentlemen are legends in their respective sports. They are quite similar in many ways, yet different. They finished their careers at a time when they hold most possible records, records which will take some time and effort to be broken.
You can say both were rebels. Although one caused ripples and raised eye-brow at the start of his career leading the traditionalists label him as outrageous and brat, at the end of his career he was the darling of all. The other however always remained a "rebel" for some whereas hero and god for some others. Every fan had only two opinions about the "rebel" – either they hated him or they loved him. The fact was they could not just ignore him ... This remained true both for his fans and his colleagues. You would have guessed by now whom I am talking about – the first person in question is the great tennis legend Andre Agassi and the second one is probably the greatest formula one driver ever Michael Schumacher.
These two men entertained and thrilled us with great performances year after year. As they leave us, let us all stand up give them a rousing applause for all that we got from them – the joys, the disappointments and the memories ...
