Okay, it's been quite a long time since I've blogged so this may seem a bit random and strange. In fact this is a bit random and strange. I am just adding another line here because my english professor absolutely hated two line paragraphs. In honor of Tom, now there are four.
Been a strange day for me, I have been up for nearly twelve hours now and I haven't even looked at the news. I had to travel today for a funeral service, the second in just a few weeks time for me. I hope this run ends soon.
Ok, now I've read some news and have some ammunition. An article appearing yesterday on the Inter Press Service News Agency by Adrian Reyes cites the fact that Mexico is blaming the United States for a surge of drug related violence in that country. "The United States is the biggest market for drugs, and also plays a key role in the distribution of the ingredients for their manufacture." So, we are winning the war on drugs, right? Mexico is losing.
The USA today has not necessarily uncovered, but reported today on more Enron accounting practices used by the Bush Administration to report the U.S. deficit. Dennis Cauchon of the paper writes, "The federal government keeps two sets of books."
Cauchon continues with this paragraph that spells out the grim state of our governments duplicit representations. "The set the government doesn't talk about is the audited financial statement produced by the government's accountants following standard accounting rules. It reports a more ominous financial picture: a $760 billion deficit for 2005. If Social Security and Medicare were included — as the board that sets accounting rules is considering — the federal deficit would have been $3.5 trillion."
Of course this doesn't surprise us, but it sure is nice to know the real figures.
Alright, that's enough for today. May peace folow you.
