U.S. History (4)

I found this really sarcastic movie on YouTube; check it out. Worth checking and makes you think, first read the fourth quote from my document on American history.
European colonization changed the lives and cultures of the Native Americans. From the 15th to 19th
century their populations were ravaged by displacement, disease, enslavement and warfare with
colonists. Estimates indicate that possibly 80% of the Native Americans may have died from European
diseases like smallpox and measles

U.S. History (3)

It's time for a new quote; see my first two posts for more information.
What began as a colonial revolt against economical policies between the British Empire and its thirteen British Colonies in North America, ended up as the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). Colonists were divided into revolutionaries, or so-called Americans, and a minority Loyalists supporting the British Crown. The Americans did not yet have a professional army and therefore in 1775 the colonies found the Continental Army with George Washington as commander-in-chief. France, Spain and The Netherlands supported the Americans financially and militarily in an attempt to dilute the emerging of a British superpower.

Nu.nl Widget

Nu.nl is a Dutch news site and I made a (prety cool) widget for that website. Simplicity = friendy, so no animations or other crap. The widgets presents the ten latest headlines for each quire; one can browse through the quires by pressing the left and right arrows on the keyboard. This allows a fast look-up of all news feeds and no extensive clicking is required. The current quires that are provid: frontpage, sports, internet, gossip and economics. Take note: the widget is totaly Dutch. Newsfeeds are updated every minute. If you have any suggestions, let me know!

Update: All my widget are now online and available at the opera website. Check this out...

Widget Mania

, , ,

Everywhere I surf on te Opera Community I get confronted with widgets... Reason enough to try and develop a widget myself. On the forum I found a geek begging for a binary clock; here it is. Its not finished yet, but I think I am doing well. If this is done I will start workin on real usefull widget.

Update: I've been doing some work on it. changed the look-and-feel and "back-stage" a lot has changed that allow me to hook-up more modules.< click here to see it work>

Dutch government brought down again

And again.. my country is slowely turning into a so-called banana republic. On the other hand; I am in total disagree with the (now former) government. Hopefully the rural Dutch politics will become stable in the near future. New elections are due to be held in spring 2007
D66, the coalition's smallest member, withdrew its support in a row over Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk. Ms Verdonk had threatened to strip former politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali of her Dutch passport because of false information she gave in 1992. Mr Balkenende said he would tender the government's resignation on Friday. The D66 party pulled its support because Ms Verdonk, known as "Iron Rita" for her tough stance on immigration issues, refused to resign over her treatment of Ms Hirsi Ali.

U.S. History (2)

, , ,

Today I am trowing in another quote on U.S History!
Up to 1624 about 14,000 people moved to North America, but due to diseases and attacks from native inhabitants the population kept small. Over time religious movements and war made many people from northwestern Europe move to the New World, seeking new opportunities. Late 17th century the North American population had risen to a quarter of a million, originating mainly from the British Isles and partially from France, The Netherlands, Germany and Sweden. The colonists were by no means a homogeneous band, but rather a variety of social and religious groups which settled in different locations on the eastern seaboard.

U.S. History (1)

, , ,

I have written a short summary of U.S. History as part of the researh required for the studytour (Later on I will elaborate on this tour). The document describes American geographical, historical, socio-cultural and business aspects. It could be a nice basis for discussion; download it at the bottom of this message.
President Woodrow Wilson promoted the concept of a peaceful community of nations to prevent future blood shedding as during the First World War. The so-called League of Nations was included to the Treaty of Versailles which officially ended the war. Despite all President Woodrow Wilson's efforts, for which he was awarded the 1919 Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S.A. Senate never signed the Treaty in order not to lose U.S.A.’s neutrality.
