Have you been to Algonquin in late fall? I saw them everywhere in the park during my November visit, including walking down hiking trails in broad daylight!
Other than that, I'm pretty sure I've only ever seen two other North American foxes: one in Thunder Bay (after dark, sitting in a drive) and another trotting across a road close to Waterton village. I've never seen a grey fox or a swift fox
The westernmost place have been to in Canada is Toronto!
During 2 weeks, a couple of years ago, there was one hanging around the visitor's centre during day time but I'm pretty sure he was sick and that's why it behaved this way..
He could have been sick, but he could also have been begging, especially if someone had tossed him some food at some point. They have very good memories and will return to past "good spots" during a difficult time. But they will certainly be out and about during the day if they feel secure, regardless. I can see them at literally any hour in the 24 here.
Nothing wrong with TO, but it doesn't quite have the wildlife watching potential of Waterton
