Hi everyone,

Here's some quick news of myself before a possible indeterminate period of absence from the OC. There's nothing wrong with my health or anything like that but let's say that I'm going through a period of turbulence in my emotional life and it's taking all my attention. But there's nothing to worry about, on the contrary, it's all positive. But it's also very complicated and it could drive me nuts but then again, we always say “follow your heart...” and this is what I'm doing.

Ok before you crowned me “King of Unclear Posts” I'll switch right away to clearer news of myself.

First I have agreed with my boss about my departure conditions and my quitting date has been fixed: July 11. So I have about 50 days of work left to do and after that I'll still have a few weeks of vacation left paid by the park. I'm happy with our agreement and I can't wait to move on to my new projects. And speaking about those projects, on may 25 I will have my long-awaited information meeting for my volunteer work project in Guatemala. After this meeting, I should have a good idea of my date of departure.

I'll take advantage of this a bit far away meeting to take a week of vacation at the same period. This way I'll be able to visit this Québec region I never went to, “Chaudière-Appalaches” and I will try to do it on my new Devinci bicycle. Yes, I bought myself a brand new bike :hat: and I have promised myself a huge summer of cycling. I don't know why but I have caught a cycling fever and I can't wait for the trails to become completely snow-free.

And to finish my week of vacation, I will go to another great Montreal event: “La Féria du Vélo”. It's the classic bike tour of the Montreal island but instead of going to the diurnal event, I will ride the smaller but surely amazing night tour. I must have been an owl in an other life...

So I will talk to you later maybe with many new news but for the moment I will concentrate on my non-virtual life. bye

2 Years!

, , ,

Nop, you ain't clicked on the wrong link, you really are at Volkuro's blog!

And what happened here you ask?

Well, it's my 2nd year blog anniversary!! :hat: and what a better way to celebrate this Operanniversary than by revamping my blog :D

So take a look around! Look at my new presentation photo, my new tag icons and my new handmade avatar too... :right:

(Ok you can't see the final result yet because, on this April's fool day, I'm a "Lion" but you will see it as soon as this zoo leaves the OC!)

BTW this new ethereal creature will be, from now on, officially called a Volkuro.tm

For those who thought “Volkuro” was a clumsily misspelled version of Björk's song "Vökuró" you are way out of track!!!

Argh...Where is this :telling truth: smilie
when you need it?
....mmm....Ah! There it is :

And please also answer my new pole, discover some fascinating blogs in my sidebar, visit all my blog's tabs...

2 years, wow! Nearly 400 posts and over 150 000 visits. :D

Many things have changed in my life in these two years and when I look at the evolution of my blog's design through out those years, from the really dark green original design to this golden honey clearer one, I think I can conclude that my life evolves in a good way.

What stands out for me the most when I look back at my two last years of blogging are not all the ridiculous and embarrassing things I've done to amuse you guys like trying to interest a wild duck with a dollar-store-plaster-white-painted-unicorn or record myself singing “In the Jungle” or buy a cake and light two candles on it because it's my blog birthday! No, what stands out for me the most are all those encounters I had with many wonderful and generous persons over those years. And it has come to a point where when I hear international news, a large group of countries have now a human face link to it. Sometimes, it's not exactly a face, more a person's history but anyway, it has given to the entire planet a familiar side and I can only see a positive side to it.

So thanks everyone who has welcomed me in their virtual lives and thanks to Espen and the gang to make it possible and at the risk of disappointing you, I think you will be stuck with me for many more time! p:

Pousse pousse

I've never been a fan of this Quebec's artist so I don't know why Jonathan Painchaud's latest single caught my intention the first time I heard it.

Without knowing it was one of his song, I was seduced by the well written lyrics telling a realistic story of a common man and woman.

...And aren't we all common men and women?

Jonathan Painchaud - Pousse pousse.mp3

Lorsqu'il me faut passer par-dessus mes principes

Sorry if I didn't translate the lyrics this time. If one day I find the courage, I will edit this post and put the English translation...

Too much snow...

, ,

This is what happened to a local gas station-convenience store on Saturday night. the thick snow accumulation on the roof was too heavy for this building and it simply collapsed under all that weight. Fortunately, no one got injured because it happened during the night while it was closed but since many of those kind of stores are opened 24/24, it's almost a miracle that it didn't cause any casualty.

Today, in reaction, most of the nearby stores were cleaning their roofs. I even saw two men equipped with snowthrowers working directly on the roof of a drugstore! Of course, there is no chance to take...

There are more snow and even rain expected later this week...big winter it is!

Random news

First: Valentine's day(night)

Like most of the single people, I hate all those commercial celebrations so I could have gone without life's little ironic pleasantry of waking me up in the middle of the night by the park's alarm system company to learn that the intrusion alarm has gone on. After driving half-awake on snowy and slippery roads I found out that what cause the alarm to activate was the waving Valentines decorations hanged too close to the motion detector. :irked:

Oh and how I clearly remember last Halloween when I told the same person who has also decorated the park's lodge back then that she had to be careful about that. Seems I should have explained to her that hanged paper hearts has the same effect on motion detectors than hanged paper monsters...

Note to myself: Don't forget next month to warn her that hanged paper Easter eggs also interferes with motion detectors.

Next: Getting in shape

I have restarted a physical training. Last year, during my trek preparation I was all motivated about it but when I returned from Iceland I didn't pursuit this good habit. I thought that my outdoor activities would be enough to keep me in shape but after I have accompanied a friend to the gym, I realized that I have lost a lot of my muscular fitness. So, since a couple of weeks, I have mixed home training with gym training. My goal: trying to reach my friend's level of fitness and it's a big challenge because she's way ahead of me...

After: Snow

I know that weather is an easy subject and in every northern country it is over talked about but let me tell you this winter is really different than the winter we are now use to see. The average annual snow precipitation is 232cm and so far we have already received 340cm! All the major cities don't know where to put all this snow and it's the same problems for every shoveler. But, like with everything, there is a bright side and evidently, I'm talking about ski! And that is exactly what I will do tomorrow :D

Oh and of course, the other bright side of a huge snowy winter, great landscapes...
