Galileo Moment

, ,

Last Saturday, I had a Galileo moment. :eyes:

Don't worry, I'm ok. It didn't hurt. It didn't get me into trouble and it didn't change my life either.

I have simply putted my eye on the eyepiece of the telescope and I saw Jupiter with its 4 moons and Bang! It happened: A Galileo moment.

Ok now, let me put you in context. Last Saturday, Dalexia and I went to Mt. Tremblant to see the annual Perseid meteor shower.(Dalexia and I... Yes I know, I have announced lately that we had break-up but because of a little French cartoon posted one year ago about a little dog who made a wish to see the Perseids on the top of the mountain, I have contacted Dalexia and asked her if she would come to a friendly outdoor evening and she has accepted.)

Every year, the Mt. Tremblant ski resort organize an evening at top of the mountain to watch the shooting stars in the particularly dark sky of the region. What we didn't know though, is that those evenings were very well organized.

First, the set up. After making the 12 minutes ascension in the gondolas we arrived at the top of the mountain where their were many amateur astronomer with their telescopes ready to share their knowledge and willing to show you different curiosity of the stellar dome. The red projectors used to light up the site without disturbing the perfect observation conditions also create a pleasant environment. After spreading a sheet on the grass and wait for the sky to darken, the presentation began with a handy laser pointer showing us what there was to see up there. On a giant screen there was photos explaining different astronomical phenomenon. And an expert from the Canadian Space Agency started to explain us many interesting facts about space and the upcoming spatial missions.

We have seen artificial satellites cruising in the sky, of course a few shooting stars and through the available telescopes, star clusters and Jupiter with four of her 63 moons. All those observations were Galileo moments.

2009 is the international year of astronomy and to encourage people to get interesting in the sky and stars, they have printed, world wide, cards with astronomical facts on it and when you go to an organized astronomical event, you live a Galileo moment and they give you a card. On those cards, there are a number which you can use to register your name on a web site. And what happens next is the most interesting part. Each name register on the site will be record on a micro chip that will be placed in a space probe that will be launched in space. So yours truly, Volkuro, will travel in the milky way, in the form of a visit card with his name written on! :alien: hi

Anyone wants to come with us?

Have a Galileo moment! :D

Promised news

, ,

This is my first quiet evening since a long time. So I will take advantage of it to regain contact with my Opera gang. :D

Tonight I'm back at the camp after an exhausting week where I have worked 9 days in a row and move to Dalexia and I's new house. An exhausting move because we had a lot of stuff, Dalexia more than me, and with no truck but only are 2 cars and my trailer, we made a lot of back and forths. :ko:

But the most difficult part was not to really start the camp season with all the unexpected troubles associated with this task or moving the refrigerator up to the second floor, it was to deal with our new landlords who are, to say the least, a couple of strange specimens. monkey

Firstly, you have to know that the house we have rented is some kind of camp that has been renovated over the years and is not in perfect shape. The walls of the basement are wavy, the floor too and the interior finish is mostly missing but the place is great. The huge windows on the front are amazing and the cathedral ceilings give air to every rooms. And when we have rented it, our new landlords told us that many more renovation would be done before we move in and that reassured us. They also told us the story of the last tenants who didn't pay the rent in the last 4 months and were at the origin of many broken things in the house. It seems strange to us that the charming couple who were living there when we have visited the house were that bad but anyway, all the reparation promised were written on the lease and signed by the landlords.

But at that time, we didn't know what kind of handymen they were... :worried:

When we saw the house empty for the first time, we realized that it was worst that it seemed when there was furniture in every rooms. Everything is unlevel in that house. I always joke that my level wants to runaway since I have bring it there!

But it's ok, the landlords will fix the kitchen floor, the basement walls, the two outside doors, the hot water tank, the shower, etc.

Yes they have changed the ceramic on the kitchen floor and they even have putted an extra plywood to put it straight but guess what? The result is worst than the old floor! If you spill a glass of water, you will have to run after the liquid to sponge it! :right:

They only changed the hot water tank after Dalexia found 1 inch of water all over the basement floor. They have changed one door for an ugly green painted used door and we still have to slam with all our strength the second level door to close it. They have installed the gyproc on the basement walls without putting any wooden frame back. They also have changed the shower faucet because it was not working and guess what? The new one doesn't work either!!!! :bomb:

And there are not only incompetent, there are also arrogant. The woman took the time to write us a note to tell us to keep the kitchen counters clean after she has found a piece of scotch tape on one of them!!! HEY! Every framing in the house looks like a roller-coaster track and when I take a shower the shower head is at my chin level and you take the time to write a note to complain about a piece of scotch tape left by the old occupants! :troll:

And speaking of them, we have met them by accident at the restaurant last week and guess what? Yes, they didn't pay the 4 last rents to the landlords but not because they didn't want but because a bailiff came 4 months ago to order them to pay the rent directly to the bank owning the landlords mortgage! And guess who we believe now...

But not everything is bad about this move, at the contrary. Dalexia and I are moving in a new place where they are no memories from our old lives attach to it and where we can start are own story with it all those misfortunes but also with all our complicity and love and that is wonderful and great.

News News News

, , , ...

I know I have neglected you in the past weeks, or should I say months? But I won't try to find excuses why I did it because I have simply occupied myself to other things. I have realized that this blog has been really a way to exteriorize my feelings while I was stuck in my thoughts but now that everything move fast around me, I have problems sitting down and write. Maybe it's because that everything is new, new job, new relationship, new living environment, etc.. and maybe in a few months I will find back again the need to write about my everyday life and thoughts, maybe...

But for now, either I'm too tired or I don't have the time. But I have to say that I often miss the pleasure of exchanging with all of you and I often take a look on what's going on the OC.

Ok Since I have already named this post News News News, I should give you some eh?

First big news, Dalexia and I have rent a house and we will move together on the 1st of July. We were both paying our separate rents but we were already living together. At her place most of the time and at my place on the weekends when we didn't have her children with us. So it will be a nice way to save money. And it will also give us the chance to see how it is living together for real, sharing the bills, take common decisions, etc. And it will also give us the chance to see if we can both bare each other for one year!p: So if everything work fine, we may buy a small house. Until that, here is a photo of our new rented house:

And about my new job, well, it's ok but I have a lot and a lot of work to do. I don't complain because I like it but I'm looking forward to have worked a complete year and know all there is to know. It's always more difficult to learn and start everything when you begin a job and that is exactly what I'm living right now. For example these days, I have to find a dozen of new employees, complete my 2009 budget previsions, fill two big subvention demands and many other things. So maybe I should stop writing and go back to work :o:

Another reason why I don't blog as much as I use to do is that I shoot less photos. But that will change as soon as the camp will open because I will have the greatest environment for photographing nature. Speaking of that, I have begun to look for a zooming lens for my Sony. Beware loons, minks, moose and other creatures because Volkuro is coming! :knight:

Dog sled

, , , ...

Yesterday, Dalexia and I went dogsledding. It's something we wanted to try for a long time but since we were both jobless this winter, we didn't have the money to do it because it's a little expensive. And now even if I have a new job, I haven't received a full pay check yet and we can't afford a full day of dogsledding but my village has organized a winter festival this weekend and one of the free activities were short dog sled rides.

We couldn't drive the sled like we both wished to do but nevertheless, we had the chance to experience what it felt like being pulled by a dog team. It was interesting to see how they were tricky to control and we even had a smooth and funny crash that flipped the sled, and us as well, on the side making Dalexia's head hitting my camera lens but luckily no one was hurt.

This short experience has encourage us even more to try it again but this time not sitting in the sled but driving it.
