Dog sled

, , , ...

Yesterday, Dalexia and I went dogsledding. It's something we wanted to try for a long time but since we were both jobless this winter, we didn't have the money to do it because it's a little expensive. And now even if I have a new job, I haven't received a full pay check yet and we can't afford a full day of dogsledding but my village has organized a winter festival this weekend and one of the free activities were short dog sled rides.

We couldn't drive the sled like we both wished to do but nevertheless, we had the chance to experience what it felt like being pulled by a dog team. It was interesting to see how they were tricky to control and we even had a smooth and funny crash that flipped the sled, and us as well, on the side making Dalexia's head hitting my camera lens but luckily no one was hurt.

This short experience has encourage us even more to try it again but this time not sitting in the sled but driving it.

Spring Ski

, ,

Spring has finally arrived this weekend in my part of the world. :hat:

And in a wonderful way with higher temperatures(10 degrees warmer than last week) and beautiful april warm sunshine. The white stuff is still present everywhere around, though but it melts rapidly putting the civil security services on alert(Every morning, I have to send an email to inform them about the river water level in the park sector). So far, everything is under control but with the all time-record snowfalls we had this winter, it's a matter of time before the rivers overflow their beds and flood the surrounding infrastructures...

But there is a great advantage in having a lot of snow and warm temperatures: Spring Ski!

The conditions are excellent. There are no bare patches at all(quite exceptional for that time of the year) and the snow cover is enough thick to easily extend the ski season to the end of April. The only problem is that the ski stations operators will most likely end the ski season next weekend because most of the skiers who still skis at that time of the year are seasonal members like me and they don't make anymore money with us. I understand their point, but nevertheless, it's frustrating to have a closed ski station in your backyard when there is still more than a meter of snow on the slopes and you have paid to ski for the whole season. :irked:

That's why yesterday, I went skiing at Mont-Blanc, an independent ski resort who has decided to attract skiers who have a membership at a competing mountain, by giving them substantial rebates. I believe they made a good marketing stunt because there were many skiers and the conditions were exceptional. I even reconciled myself with moguls since they were so soft.

With the inevitable spring-ski outdoor barbecue and the refreshing pint of beer on the “après-ski” bar terrace,
everything was perfect...
well almost...
I made only one mistake...
I forgot to put some sunscreen on! :eyes:

Here's a good representation of my reaction when I looked at myself in the mirror when I came back home -----> ":yikes:"
