Waking Georgi

I saw Georgi today...

, , , ...

Roman took me up to the dacha today.

I've got to be honest, Georgi looked... not so good today. Maybe it's all the war talk he must listen to all the time (house full of women + gossip = hell2). He looked a bit paler and a bit withdrawn, and he looked a bit more cock-eyed than usual. He was yawning a bit, so maybe the fresh air up there is tiring him a bit. Or maybe he's just bored. Lana said he had a good night's sleep last night, which sounds like a first, so maybe it is just all that fresh air and fatigue.

We took them a pile of shopping, and some shashlik which we picked up from a restaurant down in the village, so everyone had a good feed. No beer though, so I'll just have to make up for it next time I go up there.

Anyway, we'll see what happens with all the troubles and then think about bringing them back to the city if the situation starts to look a bit more threatening.

A Small Change

, , , ...

It was Giorgi's grandmother's birthday today, so there were plenty of people in the house. I think Giorgi was a little overwhelmed by it all, so he was a bit difficult at times. He calmed down a bit when the house was a bit quieter later on.

One small change we all noticed was when we put one of his toy cars on his lap, and he wrapped his fingers around it. I think it was a reflex action - he didn't do it again, when we asked him to, and this wasn't because of any lack of understanding because he can understand everything. I was sat with him for a while trying to get him to make some noises, and he definitely followed my lead when I started making an "ahhh" sound. He wins a new car for that

Giorgi was excellent tonight

, ,

He was really bright eyed today, still crying a bit when he has a problem downstairs, but tonight he was actually looking around the room with his head. This was the first time we'd really seen him looking at things. It's like he's not some kind of zombie anymore. He hasn't been for weeks, to be honest, but watching him look around was like seeing another piece of the jigsaw fall into place.

He definitely has a sense of humour, but this is more than simple child-like amusement. We were playing catch-ball together as usual - me sat on the bed and Giorgi sat with Lana behind him on the stool, working his hands for him. Lana actually uses one of her hands and she lifts his other fist up (he still clenches his fists all the time) and punches the toy baseball to me. One time he caught me a low blow and I feigned injury, which he laughed at. The next time I made like I was in a free kick wall in soccer, by crossing my hands to protect those parts I cherish the most, and the moment I did this he started laughing. He could be relating that to having seen it on TV, or he just knew, on a more intellectual level than a baby would, why that was funny.

I was really pleased with his progress when I left there tonight. Little steps.
