Stopping Giorgi Crying - Method #1

, ,

Use the miracle of modern technology! I put this paint prog onto my Archos - Giorgi's absolutely fascinated by stuff like this, he always has been.

A Small Change

, , , ...

It was Giorgi's grandmother's birthday today, so there were plenty of people in the house. I think Giorgi was a little overwhelmed by it all, so he was a bit difficult at times. He calmed down a bit when the house was a bit quieter later on.

One small change we all noticed was when we put one of his toy cars on his lap, and he wrapped his fingers around it. I think it was a reflex action - he didn't do it again, when we asked him to, and this wasn't because of any lack of understanding because he can understand everything. I was sat with him for a while trying to get him to make some noises, and he definitely followed my lead when I started making an "ahhh" sound. He wins a new car for that

Walking in another couple of months?

, , , ...

That's my prediction. A couple of times in the last two days I've seen Giorgi standing... and laughing his head off. The day before yesterday he was trying to lift his left leg, so he was taking most of his weight on his stronger right peg. Yesterday, when Lana told him they were going to stand him up, he started laughing and, as he was being lifted off the chair with his feet off the ground, he started bringing his knees up - in a cycling fashion. Great to watch. Lana says she does bicycling with him on the bed, i.e. they both lay on their backs and put the soles of their feet against the other's then push backwards and forwards like you would riding a bicycle.

I'm going to get him a giant rubber ball today, to support his body and encourage him to start walking the ball around the room.

On a sidenote I'm looking at moving to a new apartment which is near to Lana's parents' house. They're due to move back to my flat soon, but we've really got to find somewhere closer to where her "support team" live, otherwise it'll make it very difficult to manage.

I'm also quietly pleased that Giorgi doesn't appear to be having any serious problems with seizures. He still does furrow his brow and suddenly start crying for a few minutes. I don't know what is causing this (we can't wait for him to start talking, so he can tell us) but I suspect his brain is throbbing somewhat - that's the only thing I can imagine it to be. I think it's less likely to be "demons attacking him", because of the look on his face. He does look a bit distressed but it really looks more like he's getting some occasional pain passing through his head.

A tiring weekend

, , , ...

Giorgi's been crying quite a bit this weekend. I think it's maybe some head pain, but his head could be full of demons, for all we know.

He was pretty good tonight though, there were a couple of times when he looked a bit distressed: he furrows his brow, and his face goes hot and flushed. And then, a few minutes later, he can be back to normal and laughing.

No further progress of note. He did look me in the eyes a bit more noticably, but maybe I just didn't notice before. Lana keeps asking me if I think he could be like this for the rest of his life. I honestly don't think he will, not if we can get him all of the right therapy, and at the right time. It's difficult not to be over-optimistic when I think about how far I think he can develop in the short term. I'd hope, within another 3 months or so, that we might be lucky enough to see him on the verge of either walking or talking, or both. We're going to get him a giant ball for him to roll around on. I'm not sure if a SpaceHopper will be be ok, or if there's a purpose-made one available, with no handles obstructing the rolling.

His "blockage", which has caused most of his crying this weekend, cleared with avengence today. It's like waiting for a number 9 bus - you wait for ages and then 3 come along at once, in Giorgi's case FOUR in one day. I had to grab an emergency pack of Pampers and zoom over there.
