U2, Qtrax and Piracy

U2's manager has today gone on the attack against piracy. Tosser. He wants governments to force ISP's to permanently disconnect users who download. Delusional tosser. He thinks Radioheads 'Pay What You Want' model is stupid. Old fashioned tosser. He is decrying Apple, Google, Yahoo and other companies for building companies that are ripping the music industry off. Moronic tosser.

When will tossers like this realise that if Radiohead can make half as much money in a year than one of the biggest music labels, that maybe it's not Radiohead's business model that is stupid. When will they realise that disconnecting people (which isn't going to happen) is to disconnect their potential customers? When will tossers like these wake up and realise that if Google et al can make money from their music, it's entirely possible that they can too?

I suspect the answer to this question is - when the big music labels have all died due to their inability to move into the 21st Century and they have time to look back and say "Oh yeah...!"

A good example of this is QTrax, which is now available to download, but doesn't have any legal songs to listen to because the big four record companies have still got their heads up their arses. Even if they don't like QTrax, even if it isn't the right model for them - where is their alternative. Wakey, wakey boys!
