w3c, webkit, standards, Opera
...
So internal version of Opera core successfuly passes recently released ACID3 test. Unfortunately the version is not yet public. Public beta will be released the next week as there are still some issues to be solved. So we have at least an image published by Opera developers.

Check out
Desktop Team page for more information.
I have heard that WebKit is not far away from passing ACID3 as well. So congrats to both Opera and WebKit developer teams. Let's guess how many years will passing ACID3 take to Microsoft.

www, social networking, work, Opera
...
Although I was not interested in social networking sites, I registered to 2 of them recently. This was caused by the fact that I had got invitation from very interesting people. And fortunately I had an excuse to waste my time in this way, as a part of a project, I'm working on, is also a study of possible benefits of social networking sites. It makes me feel better when I can say I do it for research purposes

.
I find
LinkedIn the most interesting as it's not focused on "on-line friends" and chit chatting, but is more a network that should connect professionals, help to find a good work and help employers to find new skilled people. So if you are interested, check it out. You can find
my profile there.
Anyway Opera Community is a social networking site too in fact. And it's the best I know - beautiful, vibrant, personal

. Also Opera web developers made the site very nice looking and easy to use.

customization, custom buttons, smart back, Opera
You know that: You go to a web gallery for example and open new images. You try the back button and nothing happens. Then you notice that the image opened in a new tab. So you close it to get back.
Well this was something I hated because I had to think whether I opened something in new tab or not. So I begged Opera developers to create better back button that would close the new window if there was no step back possible. Well Opera still has not the "Smart Back".
But fortunately Opera is pretty customizable and allows you to bind custom commands to keyboard shortcuts and mouse gestures and even create custom buttons. So I created one that doesn't work perfectly, but it's closer to the "Smart Back" button that the default one.
The behaviour can be emulated by this command "Back | Close page & Switch to previous page". You can assign it to the left mouse gesture, to ctrl+left keyborad stortcut or to any other. I have created the "Smart Back" button for you. Just click the following link and add the button to the toolbar.
Smart Back Button downloadAnd here is how to setup Opera's mouse gestures and keyboard shortcuts:
First, check the "Open new tab next to active" check box:
Then go to shortcuts category and choose "Edit" for both mouse gestures and keyboard shortcuts:
Add "Back | Close page & Switch to previous page" to column actions instead of "Back" to GestureLeft:
Replace all keyborad shortcuts previously contaning "Back" with "Back | Close page & Switch to previous page":

HTML, Opera, CSS, Czech Republic
...
So, it's day after first meeting of
Opera PROWAS and I guess it was a successful one. Probably more people came than anyone expected. Jax told us something about CSS for different types of media (screen, paper, PDAs, ...) and as Fred said probably made first technical strip show ever when presenting same Jax (HTML) in different clothing (CSS). So, if you are in Prague you can pay a visit next time. To get more info just follow the link above.
