The excitement is growing!

Anyway, I attatched a widget to my submission that had a bug in its config.xml. It works fine in my version of Opera, but some have experienced problems. The change was to change <name> to <widgetname>.

I hope this doesnt count mine out...

Mathieu 'p01' HENRIp01 Sunday, April 16, 2006 3:16:34 AM

Don't worry we are aware of the <name> VS <widgetname> problem and fixed the entries that didn't worked. We managed to get all the entries working ( some required the TP2, though most of them worked like a charm in the last weekly build ).

It was great to meet some fresh people doing widgets.

velmu Sunday, April 16, 2006 8:25:58 AM

Interesting... ~30 is a good number of entries. I also tried changing the <name> to <widgetname> on my testwidget and boom - up she goes up

And congratulations to the winner beforehands! bigsmile

Mihai Sucanrobodesign Sunday, April 16, 2006 9:17:18 AM

Cool! Good luck to everyone. May the best win and congratulations!

Scatex| Sunday, April 16, 2006 1:46:11 PM

Who won??? The winner is so fucking lucky! I have never seen a so good prize, just at tv!

Brian Henkmrspandex Sunday, April 16, 2006 2:35:29 PM

I don't think they announced a winner yet

We probably won't see on today as it is Sunday, and Easter. I don't know how big it is in Europe, but in the US most people aren't working.

Good luck to everyone!

Scatex| Sunday, April 16, 2006 3:42:47 PM

Hehe, neh they don't work in Europe on sunday either, but they said to me that they were going to anounce the winner saturday eve, at TG. And of course I've seen such a good prize before but I believe it was the best one at The Gathering p

Vaclav Slovacekwessan Sunday, April 16, 2006 6:28:05 PM

maybe they should also have some minor but still good prices for at least second and third, i think it would have motivated more people to create widgets ... being the best isn't easy and everybody knows that

Scatex| Sunday, April 16, 2006 7:58:17 PM

When do we get to know the winner? Or is it already announced?

Benjaminlesinfox Sunday, April 16, 2006 8:29:18 PM

i suggest : one opera widget tshirt for all contestants wink Would be so happy ^^

Brian HuismanGreyWyvern Sunday, April 16, 2006 8:47:20 PM

The suspense is terrible, I hope it'll last. bigsmile

Vaclav Slovacekwessan Sunday, April 16, 2006 8:54:29 PM

well t-shirt and $6000 price is quite the difference smile ... i don't think that would have motivated more people than the single price

johnnysaucepn Sunday, April 16, 2006 10:05:21 PM

Well, I'd like to make a public apology to my fingernails. They'll never be the same again after this wait.

I do wish there was a second or third prize of some sort - so many people have put so much effort into a compressed space of time that it hope it goes properly recognised.

Anyway, on with the wait, and good luck everyone - from what I've seen already, the competition should be pretty tight!

Scatex| Sunday, April 16, 2006 10:51:26 PM

Well, there are a second and a third prize. Headsets to the third and the second? Although this ain't close to the first place p

Vaclav Slovacekwessan Monday, April 17, 2006 1:16:42 AM

Even there were second and third, I was talking about being announced eatlier for motivating more people.

Brian Henkmrspandex Monday, April 17, 2006 3:40:17 AM

I like the t-shirt idea. I would wear it every day (And wash it every night of course).

T-shirts For The Win. bigsmile

Also, I kinda assumed there would be more when the post said: "Winners" Plural. It was in there at least once.

Scatex| Monday, April 17, 2006 2:17:20 PM

Excpect an announement shortly? That was said two days ago p I believe they find it diffcult to decide the winner p

Mihai Sucanrobodesign Monday, April 17, 2006 2:32:41 PM

Yes, it's hard smile.

Brian Henkmrspandex Monday, April 17, 2006 2:52:30 PM

I have this page refreshing every time I open the browser to see if theres any news. This is getting very tense.

johnnysaucepn Monday, April 17, 2006 2:56:34 PM

With 30 widgets to go through in fine-toothed detail (all those criteria to rate from 1-10?) I can understand it taking a while. And hey, that's the way it should be for a prize of this size.

Audun Wilhelmsenskyfex Monday, April 17, 2006 7:46:46 PM

The winner was announced at The Gathering, dunno when Opera will update these pages.

Scatex| Monday, April 17, 2006 8:30:45 PM

Really???

Brian Henkmrspandex Monday, April 17, 2006 8:32:12 PM

???

Are you sure?

That would definately make me sad if they couldn't even muster the strength to do a simple blog post.

Mihai Sucanrobodesign Monday, April 17, 2006 8:40:59 PM

Skyfex: ... when did The Gathering end? Did they get all the widgets? I believed they can't check all the widgets in fine detail until The Gathering ends.

Brian Henkmrspandex Monday, April 17, 2006 8:56:51 PM

It ended Sunday at 4:00 I believe.

Brian HuismanGreyWyvern Monday, April 17, 2006 9:26:26 PM

If they announced it there, then it's likely someone there won the prize; sad as much as I'd not like to admit it. Oh well.

At least we'll soon have ~30 new widgets to play with! smile I can't wait to see what everyone came up with.

Audun Wilhelmsenskyfex Monday, April 17, 2006 9:28:37 PM

GrayWyvern: The first prize winner was there, but not the second and third prize winners. I can tell you that the second prize was a beefed up clock, and the third one was a Tetris game. I don't remember their names.

Brian Henkmrspandex Monday, April 17, 2006 9:34:19 PM

Oh wow. Grey got lucky bigsmile

Brian HuismanGreyWyvern Monday, April 17, 2006 9:46:50 PM

"the third one was a Tetris game"

Woohoo! You'd better not be joking wink

Even so, I wonder why they are taking so long posting any news to the site. Is it possible to have a two-day long hangover?

Vaclav Slovacekwessan Monday, April 17, 2006 9:59:23 PM

Strange that they haven't publiced that. When you choose a winner, writting who's that is the easiest part of the process.

Scatex| Monday, April 17, 2006 10:59:42 PM

Agree, I was at The Gathering, but I left saturday eve, and I don't know who the winner was! Write it down!

Frederic LarsenFLarsen Tuesday, April 18, 2006 12:23:53 AM

I won the second prize which was a beyerdynamic DTX 900 headphone. I really wanted that pc but still, I'm proud being second best.

GrayWyvern: I was at the gathering, but I was sleeping and didn't wake up until 9 in the morning. It was plain luck that I noticed the sms telling that a prize is waiting for me in the opera stand. My name is Frederic Larsen.

If you want to take look at it, you can find it here: http://www.flarsen.com/04-18-2006/so-close/

At least, congratulations to whoever won the pc.

Audun Wilhelmsenskyfex Tuesday, April 18, 2006 1:05:16 AM

I suspect they're on easter vacation still. They were working at The Gathering, but I suspect it was half vacation wink I think most of the guys conserned with Widgets was there, and they probably had a lot to do going through 30 widgets and giving support to all the interrested people there. I bet we'll see an update on Wednsday.

johnnysaucepn Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:58:51 AM

My guess is that apart from getting home and having Monday as holiday, they're still going to take a little time to get all the entries uploeded and listed.

Congratulations to FLarsen and GreyWyvern, well deserved! And also to the mysterious winner of first place, although I have an idea of which one it might be.

Mathieu 'p01' HENRIp01 Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:38:25 AM

Sorry about the delay. We're uploading all the widgets and writting a blog post to publicly announce the results.

We'll try to review all the widgets, maybe 2 by 2, in the forthcoming days.

It's been pretty hard to decide. Congratulations and thanks to all of you for your contributions.
