WOS Trivia Update

, , , ...

Production on WOS Trivia has continued today. Now, the questions are pulled real-time from the database using AJAX, filtering out any questions already answered. Correct answers add to the totaled points of the player and filter the question from future showings; incorrect answers add to the tally of attempts for the question.

I've been adding more to the screen display, like a countdown clock. A progress bar of completed answers and a total player score and overall ranking will follow. The display is now more colorful instead of the bland greyscale of before, thanks to a new Wii Opera SDK function in the 3D class called "reColor".

Here is a comparison of yesterday's to today's progress of the question screen:

Remember that the final version will look much different and that much of the blackspace will be filled. I'm even considering creating an interface for making Mii-like 3D faces that animate while playing. That will come later, though.

New Game: WOS Trivia

, , , ...

I've begun work on a new game for the Internet Channel, referenced and explained on the official Wii Opera SDK blog here. It's a trivia game kind of like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Questions will be member submitted and generated in-house, allowing for thousands of new questions per month to be added. Hullbreachonline.com accounts will automatically have access to the game for the added features of members, like no duplicated questions, leaderboards, etc. The graphics will be driven by the Wii Opera SDK, opening the doors to 3D interfaces, additional Wii Remote contols, etc. If anyone would like to read the blog and offer suggestions or help, let me know. For the release in a few weeks, many more questions are needed, so if you have any in mind, you can message my MyOpera account, and I'll look over them.

HullBreach Progress Report 2007-09-30

The HullBreach database has undergone a complete reworking over the past day to take advantage of changes in the game over the early efforts from last year. Changes range anywhere from alterations of player stats to updates in ships' capabilities. In addition to the backend changes of the database, the appearance of the main game console and the character modification menus have been updated to take advantage of the database redesign. This is yet another big step forward toward the upcoming beta release of the game.

Several new planetary body objects have been added to the graphics pane, including Sol (the sun), several planets in the Sol System, and asteroids that are encountered in deep space.

Last but definitely not least: HullBreach has now reached MMO status! The first early tests were conducted this evening with multiple players interacting and chasing each other through hyperspace. Remember that there are 576 sectors in the game's environment, and each of those can have virtually limitless planetary bodies. That's a lot to explore and gives plenty of opportunities to meet other players.

Another big update has come for HullBreach, the browser MMO RPG for the computer and the Nintendo Wii!

The latest update adds the ability of the ship to land/dock at any body in space. Based on what is available at the spacial body (planet, comet, moon, etc.), a menu displays four choices: communicate with inhabitants, visit the shipyard, accept a mission, and trade goods. Over the next few days, these features will all be put into place, following the trend of the planets that allows real-time additions and changes to the game while being played by numerous people.

This update keeps HullBreach on track for a limited beta-testing release in mid October. Once this release is ready, all member accounts in the Wii Software Gallery will be merged to the HullBreach MMO RPG accounts, instantly bringing 200 plays to the game without the need to sign up again. If you would like to be part of this merger, be sure to join the Wii Software Gallery now.

Production Resumed on HullBreach Browser MMO RPG

, , , ...

After half of a year on hold, the HullBreach browser MMO RPG is once again in development. This project was originally meant to be an online game for users of the Wii once the Internet Channel arrived, but productions was halted until tools could be made to allow the capabilities needed for the large undertaking. Now this is all possible with the Wii Opera SDK! What was once mainly a text and icon game will now sport full animations and interactions. For those new to the project, here are the features being integrated into it:

- Take part in a futuristic multiplayer online outerspace environment
- Make up to three customizable characters per player
- Explore 576 sectors of the galaxy, each with virtually limitless locations, missions, and NPCs
- Earn credits to buy bigger ships
- Earn experience points to modify ships
- Trade with NPCs and other players
- Battle other players and NPCs
- Be listed on leaderboards for others to see
- Play this all for free on the Wii or any Web browser except Internet Explorer
