Change User agent string in IE9

, , , , , , ,

Internet Explorer, play in a more beautiful web

Today I discover a new feature in Internet Explorer 9. You can change the user agent string of the browser so that it reports as another browser. This is especially usefull for to test browser sniffing sites or thwart sites like Crash IE, which sniff the UA (User agent string) and deliver a specific javascript page that will crash any browser, not only Internet Explorer. See this video:

To change the user agent string, first open up developer's tools. This can be done by clicking on the tools icon () and selecting developer's tools. Or else, press f12. In developer's tool select tools and then change user agent string (see screenshot below. Click on the screenshot for a bigger image). You can choose any of the 7 default strings (Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 6, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Bing bot (I have no idea why developers want to pretend to be bing bot.

Also you can create your own string by selecting the "custom" option. There you can type the string you want IE9 to show when visiting websites.

@Anonymous, well just keep the "F12" open and change it back with every new page. I don't know why it sometimes doesn't "stick."
