Windows 8

Internet Explorer, play in a more beautiful web Microsoft has released a video to give a sneak preview of the next Windows OS.

Although it looks cool, I hope I can jump directly to the desktop and skip the "welcome screen".

In summary, Windows 8 looks totally different from previous Windows OS's. However, a couple of question pops to mind:

  • How about security programs? Would they be running when a user is in the tablet like welcome screen?
  • How about password managers? Would they be allowed to run in IE10 in the welcome screen?
  • Would the welcome screen be too much of a resource hog that it slows down the entire PC?
  • Can I skip the welcome screen and go directly to the desktop?
  • Is Windows 8 more secure than previous OS's?

Update: Microsoft has previewed Windows 8 at the COMPUTEREX 2011 event at Tapei: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/presskits/windows7/videoGallery.aspx?contentID=win8_preview1&WT.z_convert=Share

The picture of the right shows the "welcome screen" which according to the previews would be the new start menu. I might be wrong. However, I do not like what I am seeing in the previews. IT looks like Windows 8 would be tablet centric. I do hope there is a way to disable it and bring back the old start menu back. I also hope I can skip directly to the desktop.
