Winged Avenger

1-2-1-2-3-4-5 dolls

It may be far from Mario Bava's best film but who can resist Five Dolls for an August Moon? (I can't!). With Piero Umiliani's music playing in the background while you lazily wander around a luxurious beach house on a sunkissed island in some groovy 60s twilight zone, would you really mind it that much that everyone around you winds up dead? With it's Agatha Christie inspired plot, wonderful set and costume designs and generally laidback vibe, it makes for perfect summery euro viewing, aided by one of Umiliani's best scores.

Wow Robert, many thanks for these,I can't remember the first (theme song?) being in the movie? Is it? Anyway it's an interesting variation on the main song and very Umiliani.I love movies where one song (in many versions) get's played through-out...You know I once recorded the whole movie (English language version) on an audio-cassette (dialogs and everything) it made very enjoyable listening.I wonder is there a soundtrack release out? Btw just picked this up in the Italian version (with French subs) (ws) on dvd for 1 Euro! Still have to watch that one... :) Oh and Fenech is wonderful in this one as well...

Hey bruno, i can totally imagine recording the whole thing, it's a great mood film. There's a whole soundtrack out on cinevox that features some 20 tracks, great cd! The first track isn't in the film but it's one of the many versions of the main theme that's on the cd. I only have the film on tape, been meaning to upgrade to dvd for a while but the one i want seems to be quite expensive, dammit!

This is one of my favorite Bava films and I love the score! I agree that it would make for some great summer evening viewing. Time to pull out my dusty DVD.

Hi Robert,I've got to track down that cd!I just watched the Italian version and well at 78 min it seems to be missing some stuff (not much I think) there are some obvious cuts where the music just stops or is chopped up (I bet there is a longer erotic scene missing here),read somewhere there is an 88 min version. The ending is just a classic ("I'll pray for you")! :)

hey K. i watched the first five minutes again yesterday and i'm itching to watch the whole thing again myself.
Hi Bruno, the cd is on cinevox and still in print so it shouldnt be difficult to get it. I think i'll get the image dvd if i can find it relatively cheap. Really up for it now!
