, ,

Ha, I am not a philosopher :D. Yet today I came across to this magnificent engraving called Melencolia I. This masterpiece was engraved by a German Renaissance printmaker - Albrecht Dürer in the year of 1514. It is currently being exhibited at National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.

Double Two

, , , ...

What a busy day I have gone through today! Guess what again ? I bought myself a copy of Harry Potter 7 :wizard:! Finally I have it, right there in my room :D! And guess what I did as soon as I reached home from the bookstore? I quickly wrapped it with high quality transparent wrapper, it shows how much I treasure and love this book, same fate for the 6 previous books which are under good care of me.

As I mentioned earlier in my previous blog, I got 20% off for the book and guess again what I bought as supplement in order to have that discount? I wanted to buy a detail map on Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding area and today all my dream came true. Yes, a map plus a passport transparent cover for my new passport. Speaking of that passport cover, with regret I must say that it’s now in my trash :furious:. Wonder what happened to the cover right? It’s just an ordinary and perfect transparent cover yet pricey, so when I tried to put my passport into it, the cover was a bit small till I couldn’t fully insert my passport into it. It’s so tight and in the end I torn the whole cover due to vexation. So that’s its fate and I wasted RM 2.70 for nothing. The Immigration Department did offer me a cover, but it’s not transparent, moreover I don’t like its “design” and it costs 30 cents more than the one I bought today.

Forget about the cover, let’s concentrate on my book. I plan to read it tonight yet I think I should start reading it this coming weekend (albeit I know the ending already p:). So on what reason I postpone the reading? Some of you may know that I will go to Tioman Island in this coming Thursday till Saturday (3 days 2 nights). There will be 10 of us including 3 French girls. Thus I won’t have time to read it. And it’s the reason which kept me busy in the whole morning. Jun Hui and I were kinda responsible for looking for resort. We called almost every resort asking for chalet availability for 10 persons and it’s urgent since we are going there this coming Thursday. In the end we managed to get one which suits us the best – Juara Beach Resort, a stand alone resort located in the east of the island which facing to the South China Sea and it’s the only resort where we can admire the beauty of sunrise . Although it’s far away from the main village – Tekek on the island, we guess it’s suitable for us to have getaway from the busiest jetties and resorts which concentrate around Tekek.

Perhaps due to excitement, I woke up quite early for doing it and my dad, he just came back from work in the early morning (my dad comes back once every month, he works at outstation). We went to pay bill together in the afternoon and bought some bulbs to replace the broken ones at home. Guess what? I “overpaid” the bill! Haha . It’s a long story and I don’t intend to tell it here unless you ask me face-to-face. Later I went to Jusco to buy some biscuits for the trip and also for the Harry Potter book at the bookstore located inside the shopping centre.

So you might wonder why I put double two as my blog’s title p:. The double two stands for 2 new discoveries and 2 surprise phone calls. So let’s commence the first one: 2 new discoveries I had today: I found the chocolates which I bought from France at Jusco! The chocolates, I forgot its name but I recognize the packaging, surprisingly it comes with many flavors ! I should inform my friends who love eating my chocolate that night during the reunion that we can actually buy it in Malaysia but it’s a bit costly. It sells at RM 7.50 for a small packet; second discovery is about chocolate as well! Remember that I mentioned a chocolate biscuit which cannot be found in France called Tim Tam as recommended by Sookie Kwannie (sold only in New Zealand and Australia according to her). So SK, we actually can buy it in Malaysia! I wanted to buy it today but it’s pricey! Haha, what a lousy pretext! Yes indeed, it’s pricey for a small packet of chocolate biscuit. Since Jusco does sell Japanese and Korean food, it’s not surprised that we can actually get western food as well. So that’s the 2 discoveries I found today at Jusco (where I love shopping ).

2 surprise phone calls, one from my really-long-time-no-see-and-contact friend . It’s been 5 years that we didn’t contact each other, since the day I left to study abroad. I was shocked when she asked me to guess who is she (actually both phone calls I had today, both of them asking me the same question p:). I didn’t recall any when she finally revealed her identity. Thank god you found my contact number, Zhi Zhi! That’s her name though… I am really overjoyed about our conversation today, hope we can really meet in Kuala Lumpur later; second phone call, it’s also from a girl, also asking me to guess who is she in the beginning. This I must apologize that I am very sorry to ask you to hang up during the first call because I was doing some administration stuff at post office. Of course I recognized your mature voice, it’s Yen Ting anyway, another ex-classmate of mine for almost 8 years. Yeah, as promised, I will try to arrange a date to meet up with you in Kuala Lumpur. Hopefully it will be another great reunion.

Two surprise phone calls from two different girls, that’s really double two happiness  and they are actually my long-time-no-see friends. So do keep in touch, my friends! Do call and message me always, my phone is always on and I check my email quite often. My blog is the best place to know my story that I go through everyday. So to my friends, treasure your friends and make them know you are actually missing them as well by sending them a short message or calling them. It’s worth it, believe me, and there is surprise outcome which is waiting for you :wizard:!

Harry Potter Strike

, ,

Yeah, it’s finally out last Saturday ! Most of the super fans of Harry Potter would have already possessed a copy of the latest book and the last (which I don’t hope it). Me? I wanted to buy it from local bookstore and guess what happened to 4 major bookstores in Malaysia? They were having strike for not selling all Harry Potter books included the latest book :spock:! They protested that the 2 local hypermarkets selling it at RM 40 lower than the retailer price (RM110).

I kinda agree to the purpose of strike but somehow I do agree for selling it at lower price in order to increase the reading habits among citizens (so that they can buy books at affordable price). What make me stand by :left: the bookstores are selling books are actually their business and hypermarkets should not interfere by selling it at lower price, this would influence the bookstore markets and also the “value” of the Harry Potter’s book. I once bought Harry Potter adult and hardcover version in Europe, its price is slightly higher than the retailer price in Malaysia (25€ against RM110). I can conclude that Harry Potter’s book selling at RM110 is reasonable because it’s standard price everywhere in the world. So if local hypermarket selling it at lower price at RM65, this would affect the local bookstores’ business as well as the book’s value which personally I think it’s very unfair  for book sellers. Hypermarkets are responsible to sell daily stuffs and in my opinion, they shouldn’t have interfere the book market.

In the other hand :right:, buying Harry Potter’s latest book at lower price is regarded as affordable among Malaysians since most of Malaysians’ earnings are not as handsome as the westerns’ awww. Besides the reading habits among Malaysians is still very low compared  to the neighbours and the world. According to a local newspaper stating that with the lower price of Harry Potter’s book, there are lots of Malaysians buying it which means JK Rowling has “done” a good job indirectly  to increase the reading habit among Malaysians.

Another good news I got today from the newspaper is after 2 days of strike, the 4 local major bookstores are finally back on the track and selling the book starting from today. Since I still haven’t got one, I will go out later to grab one at one of the bookstore and I will have the whole set of Harry Potter adult version (hardcover)! As said in my previous blog, it looks nice when the whole set is put on the bookshelves p:. The photo above shows the 5th and 6th tome of Harry Potter which are currently at my room now. The 4 previous tomes I didn’t bring them back from France. The 7th tome I will post it as soon as I bought it from bookstore. (P/S: if buying Harry Potter 7 at MPH bookstore, we can get 20% discount if we buy any extra stuff there, great news huh? :D)

Oh yeah, I renewed the passport already last Friday. Guess what? It took only 2 hours and half to get a new one :yikes:! That’s really fast, huh?! Yes it is, if you have the form filled and all the documents required, the passport will be ready in one hour. That day I wasted time for queuing up at the counter to get the form :furious:. So basically in one hour and half you can get a new with modern security Malaysian passport at local Immigration Department. That’s efficient, as promised by the Malaysian government in order to improve the public service which is famed for their inefficiency all these years. Way to go !

Relié ou Broché

, ,

If you have experiences with buying book online or if you have good French vocabulary, you will know the difference between relié and broché. I learnt a lesson recently, I ordered 4 books at Amazon and when I received the parcel, it's "light" than I thought. Once I opened the parcel, the 4 books as I ordered were perfectly in good conditions except there was a small problem with the books, it's not the type I wanted.

Ah, got it? You learn two new French words today, congrats! Well, relié and broché are simply mean hardcover and paperback respectively in French. No wonder I paid for them at "reasonable" price. I rechecked through Amazon site, it's about 10€ different between these two types for the same book. Luckily, I could return the books and I could get the refund; on the other hand, the post fee isn't refundable. Due to my negligence I have paid for that post fee, sad... So guys, check wisely before paying for the items you buy and make sure it's the item you want, don't end up just like me. You all are wise guys...

I am watching the debate between the two French presidential candidates (Ségolène Royal and Nicolas Sarkozy) on channel France 2. Frankly, I don't understand much of their debate regarding to some laws and politics. Well, I don't care much since I don't have right to vote p:. The second round presidential election will be held in this coming Sunday. Who will be the future president of France? Wait till Sunday night.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

, ,

When I was looking for books at Amazon.com, I found this, J.K. Rowling's 7th Harry Potter which is called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is estimated to be released on 07-07-2007. To go into detail, I tried to look for articles at Leaky Cauldron, a Harry Potter's fans site.

It's the end, and every last plot string has to be tied up.

It's gonna be huuuuge.

In a name: If you've heard that book seven was going to be called Harry Potter and the Pyramids of Furmat, Harry Potter and the Green Flame Torch, Harry Potter and the Toenail of Ickilbogg, Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storge, or Harry Potter and the Mystic Kettle of Knackledirk, we are sorry to be the ones to break it to you but you are incorrect.

On Dec. 21, 2006, J.K. Rowling announced via her Web site, and her publishers later via press release, that the final book will be called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Put that in your hat and analyze it.

Release date: J.K. Rowling is still writing the book. During a Dec. 2006 update to her site, she said she is writing "scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more. I don't think anyone who has not been in a similar situation can possibly know how this feels: I am alternately elated and overwrought. I both want, and don't want, to finish this book (don't worry, I will.)"

Some have interpreted that to mean that she is writing scenes which are big and important, meaning that she is close to finishing.

J.K. Rowling has also said that at least two people will die, and that one person that she didn't expect to live has been granted a reprieve.

Fans have been speculating since the release of book six that the seventh will debut on July 7, 2007, or 7/7/07. As this is about 10 years since the release of the first book, it's Harry's seventh year at school, and Jo has made many mentions of seven as a number with many magical properties, this is a theory that has gained a lot of speed in a short amount of time. Jo has not commented upon it; she did say in the TLC/MN interview that she thought it would take her about a year to write, which would put her finish date around 2007. The books typically take six months to come out after she finishes them, which makes 7/7/07 (a Saturday) a distinct possibility.

She would have to finish the book in the next few months for it to even be physically possible for the book to come out in the summer of 2007. Since the announcement of the title, fans have begun to speculate that a fall release is more likely.

Length: Jo Rowling has said it would be the size of the Encyclopedia Brittanica; however, she also said, during the TLC/MN interview, that she feels it will be shorter than Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

So, what's going to happen? Beats us. There's a big fight with Voldemort coming, we know that.

Oh, all right. Let's get obsessive.

Review on Dan Brown's Digital Fortress

I forgot to mention that I have fnished reading it a week ago. So it's time to let me say some words on it.

My first impression on this book? You really wanna know? It's boring at the beginning of the story which made me ummotivated to keep reading it. But in the end, it's getting climax and interesting.

Its story? Erm, it happened at NSA (National Security Agency), USA where it had a machine called TRANSLRT which can intercept any encrypted email from all over world and decrypted it. This permited them to reveal any illegal actions like corruption and terrorism, which could endanger the security of USA.

Then an ex-japanese-worker at NSA, who was son of a female victim in Hiroshima, Japan where it had been bombed by USA army during second world war, claimed that NSA should respect people's privacy because everyone is permitted to have his/her own secret, hence the destruction of TRANSLRT is a must for NSA.

So the Japanese guy invented a genius algorithm code which was not able to be decrypted by TRANSLRT, the ultimate code which was put on bidding on internet and downloadable for everyone. The one whose bid is highest would have the decrypt key. The Japanese guy threatened NSA to destroy the TRANSLRT before the bidding was ended.

The NSA didn't believe it's unbreakable code and downloaded a copy then tested by using TRANSLRT. Normally TRANSLRT spends maximum 3 minutes to decrypt an encrypted email. TRANSLRT had run almost 24 hours but it's failed to decrypt the genius algorithm code.

There was attempt to get the code from the Japanese guy. So the whole story is about murder, being hunted, keep on the run, etc. For those who are interested, this book is you wanna looking for. Another thriller novel from Dan Brown.
