Hey, look! There's a new browser called Flock!

, ,

It's Monday midnight, couldn't sleep so I turned on my mac and installed flock . I mean, drag and droped it in my app folder. It's quite amazing.

In short, it's a browser which uses social bookmarks, has a toolbar where I can drag my flicr photos, a blogThis CM which opens a blog client, an automated pinging service and a scrapbook they call shelf. Plus it's supports extensions, there's not much yet but from what I read, it seems quit easy to convert them from Firefox.
You can see below, I installed the web developer toolbar:

flock
Check some features.here.

del.icio.us and flicr are pre-configured, I tried to change it but the + button is inactive, and at flock's site it did say:

Our code couldn't wait any longer to be free!
But! This preview ain't for the faint of heart! If you're the bleeding-edge type and don't mind a few scrapes and busted knees from time to time, feel. free to give it a whirl...

So I'll have to check if it's normal, for the moment it hasn't crashed. So that's good news.
Am I the bleeding-edge type?

But this is not for someone using a modem, well I expect that all bloggers have a good connection. Somehow the Internet seems to have cut the world in two, surfers and non-surfers. There's a big chance that a surfer has a site, more likely a blog now.

I started blogging only three month ago, but have been doing passive surfing for quite a while, first I had to learn and feel at ease. And before that I wanted to understand the network. -gave up that part!
I have friends who don't have computers, or like my mother, she uses one at work but if you put her in front of an other computer she's lost.
How do you think they react if I tell them: Hey, look! There's a new browser called Flock!
Can't expect much, if they know, it's Internet Explorer.

So here I am, saying: Hey, look! There's a new browser called Flock!

WebServerXKit 1.1

,

RBSoftware : Web Tools for Mac OS X

The WebServerXKit installer package provides an easy way to install all the last versions of Apache, PHP, and MySQL on Mac OS X Client.
All in ONE Mac OS X Package file !!
You can manage the server via a nice Preference Pane.

I haven't tried it yet but I read that you must deactivate web sharing and mysql before installation.
I'm still hesitation between this and Entropy. Has anybody tried these? Have any advice? Shall I go for it?

Butler keystroke simulation

, ,

I just wanted to explain the "simulate keystrokes" function in Butler:
But first for those who don't know Butler:

Butler is a system menu witch does lots of things, more than just a file & application launcher. It's can be:
  1. a system wide bookmark manager with import export capacities

  2. a web search with customisable search engines

  3. multi clipboards

  4. iTunes control

  5. show IP

  6. a keystrokes simulation
... and can be called by keyboard shortcut, abbreviations or like expose.

By far the best I've seen and totally free! and is so good you just have to send a donation. Once you find out all the features and how useful it is, you just need it, well I do. But I must admit I can't compare with Tigers widgets.(I don't have it!) I've tried konfabulator widgets before and found it too slow for my G4 768ram 400MHz.

Now, for this keystroke simulation, you just type in the keysrtoke combination you normaly would do, you can also choose to give some delay for the process to finish.

For example to change the extension of a selected file in the finder you would customize your Butler keystroke something like this:

Focus in the keysroke window and type:

Entrer - command left - (add some time if you need it) - alt shift right - Z - I - P - Enter

This is a simple example but combining system keystrokes you can do quite complicated things.

Other cool apps Peter Maurer has made:
: small utiliy for displaying a black backgroud for taking screenshots.
: batch file renamer, and a playlist generator.
: displays the key code and key modifier for any key combination.
: a system service manager!
: store text and image snippets for quick keystroke access.
: switch and manage widows without viewing/openeing them.
PS: Thank you Peter Maurer. I've followed your creation since Another Launcher.
