Memories of a Foreigner

Not from here nor from there | by Yeeliberto

Small cars

, , , ,

After rising gasoline prices and a bad economy, many people have started to buy fuel efficient cars instead of the typical monster trucks, SUVs.
When I arrived here in the USA, my family has had a Ford Fiesta, a car even smaller than the Ford Focus; which looked a lot smaller compared with the cars in the Detroit Metro area where they support a lot the big 3 (Ford, Chevy and Chrysler). Mostly these companies use to sell big cars and people bought them.
When driving it, many people looked at it and they saw it like a new car or a prototype, like “What the hell is that?”. There was even one time that a police followed the car from behind and the left side for around 2 miles only to see it.
But now many people don’t look at the car anymore, at least not as they used to because cars like the Toyota Prius and the Smart ForTwo have been selling them more than other years because of the fuel prices.

I know someone who has one of those gas guzzling trucks. He had to put $100 worth of gas on it to fill it up. Actually, it didn't fill it up, it just stopped because $100 was the limit.

OMG, first time I hear a person that cannot fill up their gas tank. We always fill up the Fiesta gas tank with 20 dollars (around that).

It takes me around $40 to fill up my car. Not bad compared to that truck but still bad compared to yours.

Yes, the other cars we have take around 40$ or $50, the good thing is that we use them not so often and that car very often, like going to work, school...

I used to live on the other side of town so I used my car a lot and about 30 bucks worth only lasted me three days. It was over forty miles every day I guess.

That's a lot of miles, I used to drive like 25 miles 3 or 4 days of the week, but now I'm driving like 15 in Mexico and not everyday with my Jeep
