Experience the power of social media
1st half of 2010 is the most fruitful period of my life, the first time I build something from nothing. I founded GREENeration Y Global Youth Summit, a new AIESEC international conference about green entrepreneurship. At the beginning of promotion, we spread the message through e-mail and AIESEC fan page. However, the conversion rate was low and less than 20 members applied for the summit. This pressed my panic button. I requested renowned AIESEC leaders in Mainland China to write blogs for the summit. The view rate of promotion rockets to 200 in the 1st day, 600 2nd and 1500 in a week. What more thrilling is that each blog post was shared by more than 500 times. In turn, social media promotion generated 10000 USD profit. Peoples’ learning in panic is the most effective. Panic irons the experience in my mind and enables me to capitalize on social media when doing promotion.
Faith in China Internet Industry
This spring, I received 2 internship offers, 1 from Hang Seng Bank, the biggest Hong Kong commercial bank and 1 from Marcom, a small IT industry market research firm in Mainland China. Friends and parents think Hang Seng internship can bring better career prospective to finance students like me, but I chose Marcom. Banking industry in Hong Kong are facing severe competition that the major profit source, interest margin, keeps dropping in past 3 years from 9.3 to 8.4%. However, the number of China internet user is forecasted to increase by 64% by 2014. Also, operators in Mainland China start subsidizing mobile internet enabled equipment, reducing its price from RMB 3000 to around RMB 1000. This will catalyze the growth. Internet industry in Mainland China has high growth rate and bright growing prospect. My decision becomes obvious. I am now working on cloud computing research in Marcom. Data collected even strengthens my faith in the decision.

By definition, opera incorporates many of the elements of spoken theatre, such as acting, scenery and costume and sometimes includes dance. Mainland China is the biggest opera theatre for internet industry players and people passionate with the industry. Combining my passion, social media promotion experience and knowledge on internet industry with Opera’s support, I and Opera will play the best opera in the biggest theatre.
