Inside the Nazi Mind at the Nuremberg Trials

I was a little concerned that they were being interviewed by Jewish people. On the one hand, it's poetic justice, but on the other... Poetic justice actually a pretty bad thing. I find the entire recent Tarantino milieu to be distasteful for this reason. Reveling in revenge fantasies brings out the worst in us. Worse off, though, I think, is that these "psychologists" appeared to be psychoanalysts of the Freudian ilk, what with all the nonsense about animosity toward the father, etc. I strongly suspect that there wasn't anything "wrong" with these men. Finally, I am never convinced that a soldier can be held accountable for his crimes. Those who gave the orders are responsible. Just try disobeying an order as a soldier in a time of war. These people literally had a gun to their heads. Again, I think that much of the "war crime" concept is just revenge dressed up in humanitarian platitude and legalese. War is a crime. Winning one doesn't absolve you from that sin. But you didn't see Truman dancing the hangman's jig for the firebombing and nuclear bombing of Japanese civilians, did you? Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are free men, aren't they? The entire concept of "war criminal" is corrupt. There is no such thing. Or, rather, all those who wage war are criminals, so why bother?

Not in my store.
