Firefox’s poor user retention, what about Opera

, ,

In the "Firefox’s poor user retention"
it's stated that
Currently, approximately 50% of the people who download Firefox actually try it and about 50% of those people continue to use it actively

What about Opera? does Opera a better job?

Well, I can't speak about oficial statictics, but I can say something about the (very) few people I know that tried (or even just know) it.

- One of my brothers tried Netscape, Mozilla (or Fx, can't remember which one) and Opera (he tried it after I spoke him about). He finally choose Opera, for its speed and nice looking and web rendering, but still uses IE from time to time, specially on some sites that doesn't work fine with any other browser (banks and the like, you know).
- A -geek- friend of mine uses Opera, Fx and Konqueror indiscriminately.
- Another friend of us knows Opera but just uses Fx and doesn't cares to even try it. To be honest, he doesn't want to try any other browser after the later geek friend installed him Fx... annoying thing, I know.
- Yet another guy I know tried Opera and uses it from time to time (sometimes he sticks to IE and later back run to Opera, and so on).

Besides them, I know at least two more guys who use Maxthon and four or five people more that uses Fx -any of whom has ever heard about Opera... on the other hand, I have to say I don't know of anyone who have tried it and leave it once and for all.
So it seems most of the few people who dare to give a try to Opera decides to keep it in their computers, at least as a secondary browser.
