I am not a gift...I am a surprise :)

Falling in love is easy but staying in love is something very special

Alands on bikes

It was a very charming trip by bikes.
Aland Islands are islands between Finland and Sweden. There are about 6400 islands!
Some of them are connected with each other by ferries.
Some ferries are free, other are expensive for cars...
Fiew people know that all the ferries are free for those who travel by foot or by bike!
It is such a kind of Finnish communism!
I will not tell you our way from home to Kustavi...it is another story.
Here is a map of our trip.

So...the first ferry is here.It is yellow-it means it is free for every
one

All roads in Alands are red because if red granit they are made off.

Alands are the place of very beautiful nature.

This is our "house"

It is the land of crystal water! By the way...it is a bit solty and we needed to have fresh water for tea.All other food we could cook without any solt

Stones and rocks seemed to have painting over them.

Jellyfishes in Baltic sea :eyes:

Every Island has its own Kirche,at least one. It is a church.
They are all different and very beautiful there.
The most strange thing that they are empty and opened!
Here is the first one on the Island Brando

Altar of XVI century!

Alands is the place where swans build their nests!

Different kinds of frries that helped us to trip along Alands.

Farewell to Island Lappo. Here you can see the flag of Alands:)

Here is another Kirche

The mill...They are everywhere!

What do you think it is?
It is a mail box near the road
Every house has its own mail box and make it as interesting as they want!

This is a "museum".One man created those funny animals in his own garden and
invited all to see them

Another kind of museum.
Those houses were saved for tourists to see how people lived in Alands in past times.

The ruins of fortress Bomarsund

It was Russian fortress, that was really beautiful and huge!
But it was building too long and was destroyed not finished to the end.It has been buildings for years and destroyd in 4 days...
The memorial to Russian defenders.

Another beautiful image of Alands...

Last night before going to Sweden

Ferry to Sweden

Back way as over Alands too,but we were traveling over another Islands.
The trip was charming and the weather too!
We'll return there for sure!
.

How attentive you are :)Sweden by bike

Those churches are magnificently quaint! I got a kick out of how Alex weighted your tent down! So, swans breed at that lake huh? I wish there were more of them in the pic. When did you do all this biking!? It looks to be a severe course! That is an odd way of building a fence in the one pic, isn't it? Or is that the common way there? Thanks for sharing, Yulia!

yulenka 29. November 2008, 03:56

Hi Glenn:) I glad you like it. LOng ago I wanted to show Alands.
We were there a summer before.
Churches are really charming...have a look atanother one!

Fences?Oh yes! It is common way there...and in Sweden too! They are pritty enough

There was no any problem with tent:) This was the only place where we needed to use some stones to keep it from flying away )) The wind was very hard!
All other days it was easy to use...even in Stockholm :smile:All the hotells were buzy...and we lived in tent during 3 days there

uttopia 29. November 2008, 03:59

I love that low roof on the church!
I knew what the rocks were for! haha

yulenka 29. November 2008, 04:10

 Are you tourist,Glenn?

uttopia 29. November 2008, 04:18

Camper!

yulenka 29. November 2008, 04:21

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!Comfortable way:)

uttopia 29. November 2008, 05:06

No! I was/am a camper (in a tent)! Never had a "camper"! ---Oh! Yes a "pop-up" once.

yulenka 29. November 2008, 05:10

Did you visit other countries with your tent or only USA?

53north 29. November 2008, 05:21

Wonderful. Better weather than Britain. I think your rock paint is a jellyfish fossil if you turn the photo vertical.
Ha. Funny fences! They must get through alot of wood.
Is it all snow now?

yulenka 29. November 2008, 05:28

The summer was cold enough and only August was nice...+25!About rocks...who knows..there are a lot of such!

We used such fences in Russia...

They need a lot of wood too.
I think there is snow now,not a lot,but...

yulenka 29. November 2008, 05:33

and this one too

53north 29. November 2008, 05:50

Heh. They must be for privacy, not to keep animals away.
I must go to work over the weekend now. I only work Sat & Sundays.
=o}

yulenka 29. November 2008, 05:53

I work today too.
Lucky you are...work only two days a week!
Yes,theyare for privacy, but not to hide you from other eyes, but to show that it is your place and nobody is allowd!

53north 29. November 2008, 07:55

Lucky, but little money!

I keep looking for a bit more work. 30hrs and I get help from the Govt. 20hrs and it is only a bit of help from the district council.

Phantom2 29. November 2008, 08:19

qlue 29. November 2008, 22:29

Nice tour..
So the water was a little salty was it. Where'd ya get fresh water from then?

yulenka 30. November 2008, 02:19

Hi Aadil.Glad to see you here.
When we started our trip we thout it would be a problem on the Islands.but....fotunatly it was not!
The have fresh water sources(build for using people on some Islands) and they always have water in the stores. You may buy it if you want bottled or ask for a water and they will give you free.
People are very friendly there and everyone you meet on your way says hi to you.In Finnish it sounds as "Hey"

yulenka 30. November 2008, 02:42

Here is one more beautiful view...

The most charming Kirche I saw there

Here is a cemetry near the Kirche and you can see fresh water for people to wash their hands after taking care of the tombs.

uttopia 30. November 2008, 04:25

Only local with the ten and pop-up Jay! And that was some time ago. We joined a campground prob. 30 years ago. Spent many week-ends there when kids were growing up! Thanks for the look at the fences! First is common here but second I have only seen in books. More beautiful churches! Wow!

uttopia 2. December 2008, 02:49

You better be careful! haha

yulenka 2. December 2008, 03:47

We have such a saying in Russian...
Who never risk-that does not drink champagne...

uttopia 2. December 2008, 03:57

Yes, it is like "no pain no gain"! Not a pretty one but very true, usually!

yulenka 2. December 2008, 04:17

no...it is not the same:)
Here we speak about risc, but no a pain. You may win and may lose..
About pain we have another one....
We'll not be happy if unhappiness did not help...
Hum....does it sound correct?

qlue 2. December 2008, 16:38

The english equivalent would be, "He who dares, wins."

yulenka 2. December 2008, 18:50

oh,thank you very much:)it is exectly what I mean.

holdowicz-claude 2. December 2008, 20:23

WoW! :eyes:  What a nice trip, you are lucky Yulia, very lucky :hat: Bycicle is my favorit sport

uttopia 3. December 2008, 04:17

The whole I idea I think is that we must put forth some effort to gain the things we desire. It may involve pain or a loss or a risk! Something must ( usually ) be given up in order to gain!
This is not exactly in the same vein, but similar "you get what you pay for" You pay a little price, you get a little in return---you pay the higher price you get more. Sometimes I think this one is ridiculous when speaking of brand names. Many times they are so highly over-rated!

yulenka 3. December 2008, 14:01

Hi Claude:) I know it ...will be glad to visit you and have some together trip by bycicle

yulenka 3. December 2008, 14:03

Glenn,I agree,but....you do not have the same back sometimes...You give people much and good,but...may have back things you do not expect for...

FIFINELEB 3. December 2008, 15:11

It was a very nice trip that I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. Thanks,Yulia.

yulenka 3. December 2008, 15:16

FIFINELEB 3. December 2008, 16:04
