mermaid wants to have wings too

can you see the bird fly high?
wonder what it is like,
among the clouds with wings
stretched so wide.
i too want to fly,
no,i am not satisfied,
with imagining flight,
i want to take of and be light.
i want to go through the clouds,
i want to out race the birdy crowds,
i want to watch sun rises and sets,
i want to win all the racing bets.
i wonder how is it,so high,
what will happen if i die?
will i dive inside some deep,
and permanently sleep?
i want to fly high,
i seriously want to fly,
i am stretching my arms,
come on all you winds!
i wait,
one day i will...
nothing is impossible still,
so i wait...

My uncle played his guitar at a Charity Benefit last night at the old Wealthy Street Theater here. While he was playing he looked out into the audience and thought he saw his dead wife Mary, in the third row! That theater was one of her favorite places when she was alive. Of cours when he looked again, there was nobody there.

No need to want more: Your wish is granted, Yulia. Simply look at a gull sailing above the wavelets, then feel what that gull is feeling, then identify with the gull. Suddenly, you ARE in the air. The water is below you, and nothing lies between you and the waves, nothing but air. As you pump your wings, you ascend -- it is so easy! You turn towards the shoreline and spy a woman sitting on a park bench. She is looking at you. Suddenly, you forget who you are! You are sitting on a park bench, and you are looking at a gull that has suddenly forgotten how to fly.
I have actually had an experience somewhat similar to this.
We identify with our human bodies, and that identification is all that chains us to the ground. At times, however, that identification grows weak, and as it weakens, our chains dissolve.
Ok, I'll tell you the whole story. I used to live in Boston and walk along the riverbank where people would picnic in the grass. I looked out towards a rock in the water, but instead of seeing the rock, I projected my feelings towards the rock. I wanted to have the feel of the rock. Suddenly, I began to see the world "in three dimensions".
I had a friend who is an artist and an art instructor. I told him about the experience and he said that he finds it all the time: His students, raised on television, see the world as flat. But with effort, they can learn how to see depth.
The next day, I was walking along the river again. This time, I walked very slowly -- so slowly that others probably assumed I was on a psychedelic high. Keeping my eyes focused on a tree, for example, I would approach the tree very slowly. Moving slowly, I experienced depth and distance. More than that, I experienced the world as I experienced it as a child: There was no "Us and Them".
Finally, I sat on a park bench and looked out over the water. I saw the opposite shore in the distance. To get a feel for that distance, I projected myself onto the first wavelet, then the second, crossing the river wave by wave, step by step. Then I looked up at the clouds and felt their titanic size above me, far above me. Then I saw a gull. I felt the distance between myself and the gull, and then the distance between the gull and the water. What supported me? Only air!

I found something in the wikipedia article on Proprioception that relates to what I wrote above:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proprioception
+(
the slow, focused movements of Tai Chi practice provide an environment, whereby the proprioceptive information being fed back to the brain stimulates an intense, dynamic "listening environment" to further enhance mind/body integration.[citation needed] Several studies have shown that the efficacy of these types of training is challenged by closing the eyes,[citation needed] because the eyes give invaluable feedback to establishing the moment-to-moment information of balance.
)+
This "listening environment" reminds me of what I experienced. As the article notes, the eyes should be open and focused, not closed.
Proprioception is one of the spiritual practices I list in my latest blog entry:
http://my.opera.com/NonZionist/blog/2009/12/04/spiritual-practice
But my experience of it goes way beyond the research mentioned in the wikipedia article. For example, for me, proprioception is not a one-way sense: It is a two-way process. As I listen to my body and my emotions, I am simultaneously exercising, holding, adjusting, relaxing, tensing, smoothing, etc.. So the picture I get is more like a metaphorical MRI or a vector diagram than an x-ray.

Some years ago we were studing...hum...do not know the name of it but it is connected with soul practice.
There was an experiment...we closed our eyes and needed to walk across the hall and back with closed eyes. The sense was not to encounter other people. There were something about 10 persons mooving across the hall.We needed to listen to our sensations to go with closed eyes.
It was nice an dinteresting.

The experiment you describe reminds me of something similar I have experienced. I go into a room and my attention is grabbed by an attractive woman who is looking away. I stare at the back of her head. She realizes she is being watched and so she turns toward me, at which point I drop my gaze and walk away embarrassed. Question: How does she know she is being watched?
