It's the BASS, stupid!

Here it's those low strings that come in succinctly* during the chorus phase: A - E - F - D, constantly repeated, each note held the same amount of time. Blows me away!
In Joan Jett's rendition of ACDC's "Dirty Deeds" it's the e-guitars - they're playing something like a synchronised bass chorus with all guitars, most of the time. Wow! No wonder she's in the Rolling Stone's list of the hundred greatest rock guitarists of all time!
It's done similarly in my all-time favourite (glam) rock song: "Love is Like Oxygen" by The Sweet (sorry, no link for this). There we also have at least 2 e-guitars repeating A - G# - G and back again, repeating the end notes (A & G) thrice each time one ends up there. So simple...
I've never touched a string instrument in my life. I've never consciously tried to find out what exactly constitutes "drum 'n bass". Perhaps it's time I tried!
(* if you have an instrument, you can play the 4 notes in accompaniment from the beginning of the track right through till the end! - truly the backbone of the composition...)
