Northern lights poetry...
Friday, 10. October 2008, 11:03:04
Any time I see photos of north lights I feel like if I was seeing things from other planet...
They are so beautiful, amazing, fascination and so strange at the same time…
People from north are lucky because they can see them often.
North lights photos make me stop and see them for long time, I also think that those lights are a inspiration for lots of people.

I don't know write poetry, and Greenland is to far away from me to try some photos...but by My Opera community my Opera friends gived to me the oportunity to has them together...Poetry and north lights...

My Opera friends invited by me to write a poem with those amazing photos as a inspiration…”easy”
Those photos was taken in Greenland by Thomas Bojer Eltorp my Opera friend, he have a stunning photos in his Opera page, I think his style of photography is a inspiration for us, I invite you to take a look!

North lights and poetry

Bright stars dance on a northern night
Down a green path across a purple sky
A celestial highway going home
Bringing the heavens to the earth.
by Joe

Glowing above me
Was a sea of green
With curving tendrils
And a satin sheen.
by Pamela

A sleepy village touches the stars
With colors of light in a darkened sky.
Flow towards the universe my friends
Find surprise in the freedom and happiness
Held truly within.
by Deborah

Snow and ice , and dark black night
You are looking at the skys…
Fairy tale of polar light
Is refracting in your eyes.
by Yulia

Behind the dance of cold fire
What silent mystery, what presence
Sends a message to inspire?
by Frog
Feel free to show us your poems to!

Seclusion from the city life,
In shambles does it stand
Lit by the Northern Lights and star-spat sky,
Lies our once upon a time wonderland.

Thanks,Jose,what can I say?
That we live in fairy tale?
With frozen beauty of the lakes
With charming view of snowflakes
Here you can see the air you blow,
The shine of stars upon the snow
The endless day and endless night
The mystery of nothern light...
For some of you it is surprise-
We celebrate New Year twice...
But we were given this by God
As a mercy for our cold

REVONTULET*
The night is cold, inky dark and late—
As we huddle, chant and sing loud songs of light
To warm us while we wait.
Our group grows still
As each face reflects the luminous sheen
That thrills with an awe that chases chill.
The bright green flash,
A fox-tail red arcs low above the horizon:
Could this embering fire drop its ash?
Or is this shimmer-show
A mere mirror play of fins and scales
Flashing free from ice below?
Perhaps the glint of armor steely
Cast off from the racing steed
Of some womanly-wild Valkyrie?
We hush our song, just in case
These swinging lights should think us mocking,
And swoop revenge on our too-human race!
Even so, this play of glim and glow
As if a flickering dance of souls through time
Enchants, delights, and still we cannot go.
Magnetic lights of solar winds,
Or dragon’s breath with seductive glow: all magic’s true!
This is the charm you cast into our minds!
Behind the dance of cold fire
What silent mystery, what presence
Sends a message to inspire
When, long after, afar by many a mile,
We summon the grace of this living light
And the joy of its cosmic smile?
*”Revontulet” is the Finnish word for “fox fire,”and there are folk tales about the Aurora being caused by a running fox in the north, whose tail sweeps the snow and sends sparks into the sky. However, there is an ancient word, very similar, which refers to making magic, so perhaps that sense predates the image of the fox with the fiery tail.
