Walk across the river

Last weekend I was with my family in Alentejo countriside of Portugal.
The village is Amareleja, Moura, very hot in summer about 50 selcius, and cold in winter 0 degrees...awww

Near the village have a river called Ardila that come from spain.

Last night we had lots of rain during all night long and some thunderstorm too.

In the next day, was a bit dark, but the sun try to look by the clouds!:smile:

At the time lunch the day was much clear!

With Ardila so close I wend in the road to get there!

I stop the car and start a walk by the Ardila River .:smile:

With my camera in my hands was easy to startt to take photos of some nice views!:smile:

This is so beautiful. So many nice photoes. The red one, scary one was big. In August every year we eat them very good and delisius. What a nice walk.

thobi 13. October 2008, 18:13

looks like you had a refreshing WE

PainterWoman 13. October 2008, 18:46

What a nice weekend you had. I think that scary thing is a crawfish, or sometimes called crayfish. Can you believe I used to catch them in a ditch when I was a kid? Only the smaller ones. They would tuck their tail under when we caught them and they weren't as red as this one. My friends and I just kept them in a jar of water for a little while to watch them, then let them go.

yulenka 13. October 2008, 19:48

:smile::smile:

Zephirine 15. October 2008, 14:17

Beautiful pictures, Zé... especially that red crawfish! :D We have a lot of them but not red, they're gray like river sand. The red ones are imported from America and they are destroing the gray ones! awww Have you ever touch them?
The snail's shell seems made of mother-of-pearl!

zetorres 15. October 2008, 14:31

Thanks Zef for your visite and comment!:smile:

Well lot of time I know that those crawfish are living in rivers and lakes now... " now " yes because they are new here, maybe about 15, 20 years, they are also a prague, they eat cultures, because they walk in the soil!

That was my fisrt time I saw them alive and so close to me.

I have more photos of them and you will understand way is not easy tuch them...but yes as you know I like to catch seafood, so it was easy touch that one, and I also put him in the water for his save!:smile:

About snail I was waiting for some one that tell that..." mother-of-pear " Thanks!:smile:

Zephirine 15. October 2008, 14:37

Zephirine 15. October 2008, 14:43

zetorres 15. October 2008, 14:44

Crawfish have you already tast them?

Zephirine 15. October 2008, 14:50

A lot of times! :D

zetorres 15. October 2008, 14:50

From river or from sea?

Zephirine 15. October 2008, 14:55

From river, the grey ones and the red ones! Look at these! We bought them last month. :D

cocojerry 15. October 2008, 15:33

:D yummy  add more beer is excellent

zetorres 15. October 2008, 16:12

How much you pay for them. From sea are very expensive!:smile:

For me with Coke! :D:D:D

Nice photo! :smile::smile:

MrLeffe 15. October 2008, 16:55

I learned to pick these ones and the best way is to pick them over the back and from behind so they cant see your hand coming they will defend themselves When you pick them over the back they cant mend their claws that way just a litle bit.
In sweden we say they are grey and when you cook them they will turn in to red. How red they will get is depending on the waters they live in.
There is also a differens between those who live in the sea and those that comes from rivers and lakes.I like those that comes from the lakes and rivers.

zetorres 15. October 2008, 17:21

Yes I pick them like that way! was easy!:smile:

Yes, those are to red, I can't imagine after be cooking! What colour come next red? :D:D

Those from the sea don't change so much his colors after cooking!:smile:

MrLeffe 15. October 2008, 17:26

Light or darker red colour.

Those from the sea they are a bit red maybe it has got to do with the calcium and salt just a guess.

yulenka 15. October 2008, 17:42

I like crawfishes...but fell sorow it it them if they were alive. That is why I ate them fiew times and only cooked already.

zetorres 15. October 2008, 18:04

I understand you, is not easy put them alive inside the pan! awww

Shrimps are grey, but after cook are very orange!:smile:

yulenka 15. October 2008, 18:59

never saw alive shrips...
I'd better not eat then than kill, though I am ready to eat them in caffee or cooking frozen...

zetorres 15. October 2008, 19:13

I like to get them in beach! Small ones the best ones, but to small his tast it's incredible delicious because they are frech...I have a photo from last summer!

yulenka 15. October 2008, 19:20

I am afraid to take them by hands:)))))
