Opera Magazine has arrived!

,

I just got my free copy of the new Opera Magazine! Printed version!
It looks cool.
Okay..maybe it´s a bit too big, or I´m just not used to it.
Anyway, it has many pictures, interesting writings, etc.
Oh, and it´s much better to read this way than from the screen.

I especially like the picture of Jon S. von Tetzchner
(CEO of Opera Software) in that interesting suit

Hoping to see more picture of Norway, and other interesting articles in the next issue!
Btw. I´m curious who wrote the thankyou letter, because
it´s not Espen´s handwritig, that´s for sure!

Opera Magazine can be also downloaded from here(.pdf).

Okay, bye for now!I´m going back to study again..
I have less then 20 days :yikes: until my final exams start, and I still have a lot to do..

The Islander videoclip - surrealist?

, ,

I've just been watching the new Nightwish videoclip of The Islander single.

At first it seemed to me that it's a bit surrealist, when I saw that old man pulling that huge 'flying ship. It reminds me of Salvador Dalí's The Temptation of St. Anthony painting[*] - I don't know exactly why, It's just the first thing that came to my mind watching this video. I'm not and expert of arts P:

I expected to see something totally different in this clip, like..rain, seashore, mountains(maybe), and a typical Scandinavian landscape.
Those ghosts are odd to. - and the fire circle:D Hmmm..I wonder what does it symbolize..

For a moment I thought the rope is going to coil on the old man's feet and pull him into the deep when he drops the anchor. But then he smiles.
Nightwish always manages to surprise me :D
Maybe I should have paid more attention on the lyrics.

Opera passes the acid3 web browser test

, , ,

The day before yesterday Opera's desktopteam announced that the internal build of the Opera browser passed the newest acid test. This made Opera the first browser to pass the test, overtaking Safari with only 2% ! However, by now Safari's webkit developers also achieved 100/100.

Acid3 has been released less than a month ago, and it checks certain javascript and DOM capabilities(don't ask me what's the second one:P) of the web browser.
Now go ahead and test your browser!(here)
Note: You have to score 100/100. It has to look like this at the end.

On the previous version of acid test(acid2-the smiley face) Safari was the first one to pass, shortly followed by Opera. Also, we can't forget that there are still some web browsers out there that don't pass even this one.You know I'm thinking of Internet Explorer(especially..) :ko:

Webkit already released a nightly build so that you can see for your self how Safari scores 100/100.Opera said they'll do the same shortly. For now just see their screenshot as evidence.

So, congratulations for Opera and Safari!Well done!

Update: a public Opera build was released just a couple of hours ago.

Time for a movie! - the best disaster films ever!

I just realized what the film's name was, that I saw on tv, and I was searching for it on the net for a long time.

It is called Das Inferno - Flammen über Berlin(#). It's a 2007 german film production, cathegorized as disaster-, drama-, and action film.
I was confusing it with The Towering Inferno(1974) :D and that's why I didn't find it.

Now, while I'm talking about disaster films(and I'm in the mood for blogging:P), I thought I write a list of the best disaster films I saw, for those of you who might be interested
here it goes:

  • The Day After Tomorrow (2004) - about global warming.I think everybody heard of this one:D
  • An Inconvenient Truth (2006) - this one is a documentay film with Al Gore, also about global warming
  • the next in line is the story of the luxorious and well known ship, the Titanic (1997). Starring with Leorando DiCaprio and Kate Winslet
  • now, while I'm at ships, I must mention the Poseidon (2006) film. The plot is pretty much the same as the Titanic's, but without so much romance, and with more action
  • The Perfect Storm (2000) - adapted from the book with the same title(I read it:D), by Sebastian Junger.About fisherman.
  • Twister (1996) - about tornado hunters
  • Flood (2007) - a british disaster film. It takes place in London.
  • Volcano, and Dante's peak - both released in the same year (1997).About the destructive power of volcanoes.
  • Deep Impact(with Elijah Wood) and Armageddon - 1998 - when a comet/asteroid hits Earth.I liked the first one better, however they are more science fictional than realistic. I don't like pure science fiction films.
  • The Core (2003) - a geological disaster. If you're interested in what's going on down in the Earth's core, don't miss this one!

If any of you knows more of theese kind of films(eg. avalanches, earthquakes, tornadoes, global warming, fires, or other) please share it!

Apple Safari - a short review of the new Safari browser on windows

, ,

Last year in June I blogged about Apple's announcement of bringing their web browser to windows(Read the post(hungarian)).
That time they released a beta(it was rather like an alfa however..) version of Safari 3.1 that didn't even start at all..at least on my computer. I was kind of disappointed then.I wanted to try this browser a long time ago.
This Tuesday, almost a year after their announcement they released the first stable Safari 3.1(525.13) for windows and mac.

Now let's take a look at it's astonishing 'new features  and facts :

  • First of all, it has an elegant user interface  That's the thing that I always liked about Apple.Design is an important factor to the user. From the application icon to buttons and scroll bar, everything is Mac stylish.

  • It is pretty fast, however it's not as fast as Apple says it is.Opera is faster
  • It doesn't consume a lot of memory.
The installation file's size is around 18 MB, which is extremely big, compared to Opera's ( 4MB with the classic installer) .
  • Safari is one of the few web browsers that consider webstandards as their prior preoccupation(unlike IE:down: ). See: current version of Safari passes 75/100 of the new acid3 test.Opera 9.26 passes 45 of 100.
  • It has a built in english spell- , and grammar checker! I think that's cool, but it does not have any language files like Opera does. So, Safari is available only in english. Maybe it is on the Mac..I don't know.
  • Buttons: drag'n'drop them on the bookmarks bar
  • By default Safari has got only the essential buttons on it's toolbar, like: back/forward, stop/reload and add bookmark button.
This can be improved with a few new ones like homepage, increase/decrease font size, and autofill buttons:

The progress bar is nicely done to.
  • I like the way the address bar is highlighted with a shiny blue color when I'm typing an address
  • SnapBack works just as Opera rewind
  • Pop-up blocking
  • Searching on the page: I think this is the coolest :D See what I mean:

  • Private browsing: the whole browsing history(including cookies, visited pages, downloaded items, forms, searches are cleared after closing the window. It can be activated with only one click(actually two:D )
  • there are some add-ons instead of widgets, but far not as much as Firefox has to offer with it's extensions.
  • and here's a screenshot of Safari's preferences window: not really much to see to be honest

Negative side:
  • I can't see how new search engines can be added, so I guess they can't.
  • No mail/irc client.
  • My rss feeds are not separated from my bookmarks..like in Firefox. I don't like that.
  • Downloads manager: downloads can't be resumed after closing the browser.
  • There is no Trash can for accidentally closed tabs.
  • It's not customizable enough!
  • Security: No fraud protection(phishing filter). This is not good! Apple should really consider implementing one in it's browser.Almost every browser has one(even IE P: ).
and a lot more that I can't think of now P:
So, in conclusion I stay with Opera!

And Happy Easter everyone!
