I think in times like this with all the war and seal hunt`s and more ...we need to learn from Animal`s the way of life !! God give`s us an Image of him ""we are created from God`s Image"" and we do these Act`s God is beautiful and love`s beauty...just look at all the beauty in the world and you well know what I`m saying

It's the right of anyone to not like hunting...

But these videos are pure propaganda, I don't like that. On all the posters or videos they show baby seals (white) but it's forbidden since 21 years now to kill babies! (In Canada at least...Russia still do it but nobody know or care it seems)

I agree it's not pretty to watch but it doesn't look better where they kill the pigs, cows or chicken. I welcome all the pure vegetarians to complain about seal hunting.... -the others, maybe have a thought about their meat next time?

I think the major problem in this particular case isn't the hunting itself but the way of killing the animals. Even though I do not like this hunting, I don't think it would upset me much if the animals were killed fast and without causing much pain.

But THIS is just brutal and unworthy human behaviour! That's not hunting but a bloody slaughter. I'm really ashamed of those pictures.

Very few are killed with the "The club – or hakapik" in reality but of course it seems that they are ALL killed like that. It's in the videos right? It looks very bad also the red blood on white snow. Messy...

Myth #2: Seals are being skinned alive.

Reality: A 2002 independent veterinarians’ report published in the Canadian Veterinary Journal and numerous reports mentioned by the Malouf Commission (1987) indicate that this is not true.

Sometimes a seal may appear to be moving after it has been killed; however seals have a swimming reflex that is active – even after death. This reflex gives the false impression that the animal is still alive when it is clearly dead – similar to the reflex in chickens.



Myth #3: The club – or hakapik – is a barbaric and inhumane tool that has no place in today’s world.

Reality: A 2002 report published in the Canadian Veterinary Journal found that the clubbing of seals, when properly performed, is at least as humane as, and often more humane than, the killing methods used in commercial slaughterhouses, which are accepted by the majority of the public - and that the club or hakapik is an efficient tool designed to kill the animal quickly and humanely.

But I agree, on the 1000's of seals killed it's impossible to never miss when you hit (or shoot with a rifle). Some are hurt and have pain longer then it should! Just like in the slaughterhouses again.......
I just don't like all the trauma around this, the publicity, etc.
To me, a veal is as beautiful as a seal. They are so cute!
But very tasty also right?

Interesting fact indeed. I guess it's always the same... you need to see both sides of the story. Every side publishes different lies and the truth is somewhere inbetween. There is only 1 bad thing you can do: Not thinking and talking about it.

Still I'm not against the hunt itself, but tbh there must be a better way to kill those animals, or? I just think people wouldn't be so upset, if the kill was "less bloodthirsty". I mean, how many people are upset about the wild animals killed in the forests by governmental hunters and rangers?

I understand your point Keilarina and by no meaning I support a massacre. Still reality is that we raise cattle, establish forests and grow plants for food and several other things we (more or less) desperately need. We can't stop doing this, but we can try that it happens in the most gentle way possible and with regard to the natural life cycles.

This reminds me of the movie "The Matrix" where the humankind is compared in this way:

It might be a bit exaggerated, but there is in fact some point to it.

If we were not superior non of us would be involved in this conversation. There wouldnt be computers, houses, transportation etc... We would be grazing in fields or hunting other animals for food. we would still be cruel to other things.

Nothing lives without consuming another form, that is the life cycle.

As for the post; very touching and it is wrong to do such evil.

i agree it is not rite to be killing these animals with a club but its cheap and effective, most of what your showing in those clips are just the seals nervs once they've been hit, all animals including humans contune to move after a killing blow to the head or having the head cut off (like a headless chicken runs around and flaps its wings). nothing looks pretty with no skin, but it is a weak act of power over other creatures to kill there babys.

I have always protested the slaughter of innocent animals/mammals and I do not eat meat.
There ARE videos of slaughterhouses and they are despicable. I have never been able to watch any of them, in thier entirety.

What a sad world when, for man's pleasure, such atrocities are committed. One day, and it will be too late for man, we will learn the difference between right and wrong. Good and evil.

This justification grows very thin, as does the lining of their souls.
