Thank god these are still quite rare... But I can see why they're doing it. *.opera.com has excellent ranking on Google since there are lots of links pointing here.

I already have SpamAssassin scanning all comments coming in, but the Bayesian filters need to learn what is and what isn't spam. Currently it lets everything through. I don't even know how it will work for comments considering it is originally made for email. But it'll be cool to try it out nevertheless

I have also restricted comments to Friends only. (Which are usually the only peeps who normally comment.)
At least until this latest plague dies down.

I made this blog post Private when Tag Clouds was introduced. Today a spam comment was added to this blog. How come one can add blog post comment with private access? Can you access the this or spam comment?
Watched Items showed New comment to "" and was linked to http://my.opera.com/Tamil/blog/show.dml/55877#comment1599830

Hmm... You could at least tease the bastards and set the no follow atribute to all links on comments so they don't get any advantage from spamming on Google.
Or maybe you guys could look whether all of these are pointing to an IP (or a small range of IPs) and set a block? I've got a feeling there'll be more spam coming in the next few days - most of which, will probably not be reported

If it makes anyone feel better, I've sent a message to whoever these people (person?) are (is). They're aware of exactly the four letter word they are (it's like a 'BlogThings' quiz ... 'What four Letter word are You?')
I shouldn't respond to them (just place 'em on the ignore lists and report them here), but I was seriously annoyed because this is the first time it's happened. Also, the links attached with the spam LOOK (ie - haven't clicked on them, don't want to) like they're incredibly offensive (and illegal).
Pity we can't backtrack IPs and report to their ISPs.
Oh, well ... wishing hateful things upon them them will have to be enough ...
Thank you ...
David.

I got some 'new' mentions in my news items and went to them. Yes, some were the spam mentioned above, but on others, nothing at all had been changed - no new comments, no nothing.
Not sure if it's spam (hacker?) related, somehow. Just thought I'd better mention it.
Thanks again ...

Also! the spam appears to be much worse. They also appear to be monitoring the 'latest comments' page (or some sort of similar query) because immediately after posting a comment on an old post I received a spam hit. I simply deleted it.

It is totally inaccessible, epecially for people with poor eyesight.
What about allowing OC Members to set up anon comments with verification feature on. I'm very interested in comments, even from anon folks but never bots. Of course, if this is actual people posting the spam this wouldn't be much help but I tend to suspect it is spammers.
Pity they found us.

who hates making pages inaccessible, especially to those with disabilities but with no other spam solution, would prefer something

Answer the following trivial question so we can confirm that you are not a machine:
Is Ice cream cold? Yes No
I choose, "No" -- I still posted anyway.
