Adblock

Hi, am new here and hope I created the thread in the correct category.
I have Opera Mobile browser and would like to have adblock to work but I always get an error message when I try to download it and it says "no program can perform this action", what should I do to get adblock work in my phone?
I own a Samsung galaxy S2 LTE for android.
I hope to get help here, have searched for answers for months but never managed to find this problem anywhere.
Thank you Regards Louise.

Are you trying to install an extension? These are currently not supported by Opera Mobile.

What I did: I copied the urlfilter.ini from my Desktop Opera to my phone and pointed Opera Mobile to that file (opera:config -> Network -> URL Filter File). As far as I can tell it worked.

Hello.
Yes I trying to install an extension, the name is "adblock" to my phone.
Should I enter urlfilter.ini mobile phone or my computer? I do not have Opera on my desktop computer, where I have a different browser. Do I need to install Opera on my desktop? I do not understand what you mean by pointing Opera Mobile file ((opera: config -> Network -> URL Filter File) ? Can you more accurately write what I should do please ?

I'm from Sweden and regret that I do not understand everything thoroughly.

Opera Mobile's URL Filter file doesn't support ad blocking. But Opera desktop's URL Filter file supports. So Schemestrom wanna tell you that if you replace Opera Mobile's URL Filter file with Opera desktop's, than AdBlocking will work.
Sadly, you don't have Opera desktop (me too cry).
I've uploaded urlfilter.ini file. You can download it from here:

URLFilter.zip

Extract it in your SD Card.
Open Opera Mobile. In address bar, type opera:config. Then you'll enter in the world of settings! Do not touch anything.
You'll see many titles there. There's a second box 'Quick find'. In box, type 'URL Filter file' and press done. Then you'll see a box named 'URL Filter file'. Press choose. You'll be presented to the file explorer. That's 'opera' folder (see the grey title bar). Press back button until you reach to the "/" (Slash) folder. You'll see a large list of folders and files. Select "mnt" folder. Then choose "sdcard" folder. That's your SD card. Find the 'urlfilter.ini' file and select. Press 'Save' button. Restart Opera Mobile and you're done!

Enjoy....smile

It's not the language, I just assumed you were using Opera on your desktop, too. Opera has a builtin content blocker which you can modify (on Desktop Opera) yourself. Opera Mobile has it, too, but you can't modify it. What you can do (and what mvthakar described pretty accurate) is to use your content blocker list (urlfilter.ini, saved in Opera's profile directory) from your desktop with Opera Mobile, as they are compatible. As you are no desktop Opera user, you can simply use the one linked above or search the web for one.
opera:config is Opera's builtin config page (simply open the link on the left on an abitrary Opera version) where you can modify almost every behaviour - that's why mvthakar instructed you to "not touch anything" (as there are in fact things that can go horribly wrong if you don't know what you are doing).

Thanks, I know that you have to know what to do and that is why I ask exactly how to do so there will not be wrong.
I saved the zip file on my desktop computer on the desktop but when I load it with usb to the phone, I get a box and it says "urlfilter.ini have a file format that can not be played".
How should I manage to get into this zip file on your phone?

I get it! Do not extract it. Move whole zip file to your phone then extract by using file manager or whatever. You may not get any popups.

Hey, see the post, I've edited that post. Just move whole file to the phone. You may have 'Polaris Viewer' file manager on your phone. Just extract it to your SD Card's root folder.

Kies...means a Samsung Android phone.
You don't need kies for this.

ON YOUR PHONE:

Go to: Menu > Settings > Storage > Mass storage only. You'll see white checkbox right beside.
Check 'Mass storage only'.
(Checked=Blue Right sign)
(Unchecked=White Right Sign)

Now connect your phone with computer via USB Data Cable.
If your phone ask you to 'Turn on USB Storage' (You'll see a symbol like Android logo with USB in right hand), turn it on.
Wait for 2 minutes and go to 'My Computer'. You'll see your Memory card there. Then move your urlfilter.ini file to SD Card.

doesn't work with turbo, but does work with all apps and doesn't require root.
