"Lock tab" - all links open in new tab

I'm sure I'm not the only one that accidentally clicks a link on a page that you want to stay on, a page that should be left open permanently. Especially anything playing music, or IM/chat windows, anything that can be a pain in the ass to resume. So how about a new "lock tab" behavior that opens all clicked links from that tab into new tabs, so the original tab remains untouched no matter what.

You can make all links from one tab open in another specific tab with "Create Follower Tab", but that wouldn't prevent the Back button from working.

"Create follower tab" was actually intended for webmasters who wanted to check that their links were still working, but turned out to be a little more useful than originally thought.

Not that it really does what you're asking, I'm sure you'd rather they open in different tabs and not all in the same tab - but for the time being until they get to your idea it might be useful.

I never even bothered to find out what that was, thanks for that bit of info. I might actually use that here and there.

Just now I've met this problem.

Although Sgunhouse's solution ("follower tab") seems to be useful. Not 100%, but helpful.

I agree 100% with this suggestion.
Just extend the "pinned tab" feature to do this.
No need for another tab mode ("lock") imho.

I can't find a reason not to have this behavior in the pinned tab.
For example if someone just wants to remember a page and browse on it in a normal fashion he could
A: leave it open in a normal tab
B: if he is afraid of closing it, just save it as a bookmark. Maybe in a folder called "todo/to-read"

Anything I am overlooking here?
Or did you guys mean the "pinned tab"?

Please don't change the current behavior of "Pin Tab". Thanks.

It could be an option (Preference) for Pin Tab, that it should open the links in a new tab.

The "follower tab" isn't a 100% solution, because ...

- ... I have to open the Follower Tab, and it I can forget
- ... if I (accidentally) close the follower tab, so the problem "reloads".

(Of course, the Follower tab can be locked, too. I use this way. smile )

Possible solutions:

1. New right click menuitem next to Pin Tab with "open in new tab" feature. (Less suggested)
2. New preference option for Pin Tab menuitem in the general (Ctrl-F12) Preference dialog: Links open in new tab
3. New preference in Site Preferences: Links open in new tab (It's irrespective of Pin Tab)

This function should be a complement to Pin tab, & since it actually lock the webpage & not the tab, I think it should call "Lock Page" instead.

This function shouldn't be a complement to Pin tab, since it actually lock the webpage & not the tab, if implemented it should be a new feature called "Lock Page".

And an additional feature for Pin Tab function: If I have at least one Pin Tab page, and I want to exit, Opera should warn me, that I have "pinned" tab. It could appear in the "countdown alert box" . (No plus space, but plus information. smile )

If I don't use Exit confirmation, it should appear in an own alert box. "You have Locked page! Do you close still the browser?"

It's a bit annoying feature in the function of Follower Tab.

Regularly it opens any link in a new tab. But it don't affects the opening of "custombutton links". If I drag and drop a link to any toolbar (e.g Startbar), and I click on it meanwhile I am on Tab that has Follower tab, the page opens in the actual tab, not in the Follower tab.

Hello

It's 2012 and we do not have this feature (at least I cannot find it) smile
Did developers decide they will not implement it?

In the meantime I have to say -1 to this, as I use pinned tabs for web apps mostly where interfering with links is no good most of the time ...

for me it would be good for cases:
- I have sent an important letter by mail (not email) and want from time to time track it by its number.
- Sometimes I need write in cyrillic, so use a special site "translit.ru", I would like to have a pinned tab, which shows only www.translit.ru and nothing else.
- Sometimes I save not read articles to pinned tabs and also do not want the tabs link be changed.

If a user says they want to pin a tab, they mean they want to keep that web page open. This enhancement (as an option) would support that to avoid the user forgetting to "open in new tab". If you do forget, you lose the page you pinned.

PS: locking (or even hiding) the address bar would make perfect sense though.
